On behalf of Eric Vergo I proudly present the Royal Pentultimate v2. VIDEO This puzzle is 50mm to an edge (same size as an Mf8 Teraminx). It was printed with Shapeways in WSF material and then tt was tumbled by Brandon Enright (Bmenrigh) for a staggering 30 days. The stickers were cut by Olivér Nagy. Special thank you goes out to first of all Eric Vergo who did a fantastic job on the design. Secondly Brandon who have put tons and tons of work into this puzzle (you have no idea ) And lastly Olivér Nagy who went through a couple of different sticker templates before it we found the right one. Thank you guys! I really appreciate all your work! Next time you come to Denmark you will get a nice bromance (Greg ) hug. VIDEO

WOW!!! That looks nice. I've now put TomZ's Multidodecahedron together and have yet to sticker it and that puzzle has a ton of pieces and it will take me some time to work up the ambition to apply all those stickers so I can certainly appreciate all the work that must have gone into this. Now a few questions:
(1) Just how many pieces are in this puzzle? (2) Did you have to so anything special to get the smallest stickers to stay or was the tumbling enough?
Carl

(1) Just how many pieces are in this puzzle? Inner shell (1): 1 Core Megaminx Shell ( 62): 12 centers 30 edges 20 corners Starminx Shell ( 392): 30 edge centers 60 edge wings 120 edge diamond wings (chiral pair) 60 edge diamond points 60 outer Starminx points 60 middle Starminx points 60 inner Starminx points 12 centers Pentultimate Shell ( 20): 20 corners Total: 475The design is really great. The way the pieces interlock is fantastic. The turning on the puzzle is very smooth and nearly flawless. The puzzle is sensitive to alignment but all higher order puzzles are. wwwmwww wrote: (2) Did you have to so anything special to get the smallest stickers to stay or was the tumbling enough? Due to the way the pieces were oriented in the printer, some sides of the pieces had sever aliasing (stair-stepping). I tumbled the pieces beyond what was needed for their external surface in an attempt to smooth out the aliasing. I think it yielded a better turning puzzle but it had the unfortunate side-effect of rounding the edges and corners of some pieces. The sticker template had to undergo multiple re-designs. Some of the stickers are smaller than they otherwise would need to be because of this. Also, I saturated the pieces with silicone oil. I forgot to tell Sigurd to thoroughly clean the surface of the puzzle with alcohol before stickering. I can't imagine stickering was an easy job because of that...

All the questions are for Eric Vergo. Could we please compare version 1 with version 2 with pictures? viewtopic.php?p=258770#p258770Are you going to make a Eric Vergo's Cubic Royal skewb version 2. viewtopic.php?p=247737#p247737I'm sorry if I opened a can of worms for you.

Looks fantastic. It seems a bit loose/rattly, though. I see a lot of space form in the second layer when you turn the outer layer.
It looks rather big for a dodecahedral puzzle, but maybe you just have small hands. I would appreciate a size comparison to a 3x3 if possible.

A gap does form in the slice layer when you turn the outer layer. This doesn't seem to be related to how tight or loose the puzzle is. It might be from the cumulative wear from the tumbler across all of the pieces in the slice adding up to form a gap. pirsquared wrote: It looks rather big for a dodecahedral puzzle, but maybe you just have small hands. How hard would it be to use this mechanism as the basis for a 4-layered version?

I really love the fact that it's not pillowed. It's a beautiful puzzle. Congrats to all the people who put in the effort to make it possible.

Beautiful, just beautiful. I also like that it is not pillowed. Have you done a scramble and solve yet?

Beautiful puzzle!
A lot of small stickers, very time-consuming.

Here is a comparison to a GuHong 3x3x3 @ Andreas: The weight is 409 grams. (also the edge length was mentioned in the first post). @ Jared: I wish a 4 layered one was possible too. It seems it is more complicated. I sure wish someone finds a solutions that doesnt involve a huge clicking mechanism, but a smooth turning puzzle like this one. @ Gus: It being flat was one of my first ideas for Eric. Secondly that it was increased in size. I belive the v1 was about 5-10 mm smaller on an edge. @ Darren: A comparison photo with v1 is not going to happen anytime soon.
