Hi! I want to design a Gear Corner Turning Octadehron and have designed the gear layer in 2 different configurations: 1. Corner and edge - 8 teeth, big round - 20 teeth. This version does not have a non-geared edge part, but it has a center face element. 2. Corner - 12 teeth, edge - 6 teeth, big round - 20 teeth. This one is very similar to Gear Pyraminx, even the face pattern is much alike. What do you think - which version is better to make (more interesing to solve or looks nicer or ...)? Attachment:

Based on the poor behavior of the group of center pieces on the Gear Pyraminx, I'd go for the v2 for the sake of simplicity and stability.
I don't have an opinion from a solving point of view because I still don't have a good grasp of what choices influence the solving experiance on a geared puzzle.

I would say v1, because I notice that v2 still has even smaller peices, which could cause lockups.

I'd say v1 because I want to see something new. v2 reminds me of the gear pyramid, which is a great puzzle by the way.

The first picture is actually the V2 and the second is the V3 according to the file names. So it looks like everyone so far has voted for the V2/first one, which I agree with.

You must be talking about the mass produced puzzle that turned to be kind of a poor excuse for the real Gear Pyraminx. Do you know why it doesn't work like it should? Meffert's designers actually made too big changes in my design. Below are the comparison pictures with one version laid over another. Attachment:

Both look like great designs to me, and I'd be very happy to own either of them!
However if I had to choose only one then I'd go for the first one. Sometimes I feel that less is more.

I'd have to go with the V3, because the inside pieces do not look nearly as small as the ones on the V2.

The first one is just a differently shaped gear cube so I vote for the second one - that is, if only one can be made.
