Hello everypeoples, So here's my latest puzzle, for which I made a few hints in the hints topic (the core that looks like a palm tree). It has 11 shells (5 according the the functionnal properties) The shells are: Megaminx, Pyraminx Crystal, Master Pentultimate, Pentultimate, Helicopter I guess I won't make a long description as it's a combo of two famous puzzles. This is by far my favorite one of my collection, and it's very smooth, so I'm extremely happy about the results. You buy this on my shapeways shop (links fixed) if you want for 290$ (340$ with VAT for europpeans) Video =)Enjoy ! Greg

Wow! Very nice! I like that you can make a half pentultimate move and still make helicopter moves.

What an incredible design! Holy hell, when you were designing this I suppose you could hear your computer groaning in protest With so many shells, I would expect the friction to be quite high, so I am surprised to see that you are pleased with the turning. With your puzzle designing experience, did you manage to make this work in one go, or did you have to do a number of prototypes?

Great puzzle Greg. I think this puzzle is by far your greatest, and I think many people will agree with me. And to think that around two years ago you were showing off puzzles like the Quartet, which is nothing by comparison to this.

With your puzzle designing experience, did you manage to make this work in one go, or did you have to do a number of prototypes? Except for the Mini Chopper (V3) the Quartet (V2) and the microminx (V2 didn't work, V3 will use micro screws so it should work), I've never had to redesign a puzzle. This is my first version. I did fail threeo puzzles which I never remade because the mech was completely false and it was impossible to redesign using autocad at the time: Master Skewb, Elite Skewb, and Skewb + 3x3 I forgot to mention it isn't unbandaged, but that would probably make the turning much worse. I have very limited funds generally, so if I fail a puzzle it hurts real bad, so I'm better off making a good V1 Thank you all for the kind comments =)

Thanks for the heads-up Marcy, I tried but can't correct the links. The models are private but for sale (you can only acess via link) and the links work for me, but apparetly not for everyone else. I will contact shapeways immediately, hopefully they can repair the problem =) As for now, here are the links; CorePart 1Part2Ender Delphiki wrote: I wouldn't even go that far. It looks like a monster to even assemble. hehe yup but there's a average-easy way to assemble it: make full pent corners (including the heli on top) then assemble like a pentultimate. at first you might be worried that the heli cuts don't turn at all no matter how much force ou put to it, but once broken in it's extremely smooth (that's the biggest difference i've ever witnessed between non-broken in and broken in.

From the first 2,3 picture I don't see any difference between this one & the mass produced helicopter Dodecahedron. And then I saw the picture of the whole half-cut puzzle turning......It's a penultimate cutting! too! Really interesting idea & great design!

I've just seen the video, and those jumbling moves are amazing. I didn't expect it to still be able to make turns after a "half" slice move. When you design this, do you think about what sort of jumbles are possible (i.e. you have to design the underlying mech to allow them to happen), or are they a consequence of the geometry?

Is it possible to turn just the top face, like a Megaminx? No, no, that would just be infinitely crazy and insanely hard to make (the second shell would be a master brillic, the thirs a master pent megaminx etc. it would require a LOT of shells to make it workable) Gus wrote: I've just seen the video, and those jumbling moves are amazing. This is consequence of geometry, but I expected them to happen, considering the jumbling moves are the same as on the helicopter skewb.

I have seen the pictures! And now, I shall go change my pants. ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... Better. If I could solve one of those, I might as well be using mind control on everyone at my school, cause that's what it would be like.

I might as well try to control everyone then, but I'm not so sure it'll work UPDATE: the links aren't fixed yet, so I had to reupload the three models to change the links. One is still not processed, and I uploaded it 3 times in two days, so I guess shapeways servers are down, the other two links work, so I'll make a last update when it's fixed

From looking at the mechanism, I don't think that the puzzle is fully unbandaged.

Wow. That looks fun to assemble... I still cannot even fathom how you came up with this design and have had a successful first prototype... (I think you're making my mind hurt as much as Oskar does) How did you come up with such a ingenious design?
