How well does it move? Any chance you'll do a build-up to a pentultimate?

Fantastic job! Did you base it on the megaminx core or something else? Congratulations!

For building BRILIC I used Dogic as a basis. It rotates very easily. But I persistently do not recommend to use Dogic. I am sure, that Megaminx ideally approaches for a basis. In the near future I will try to make it.

Looks awesome!!!! What are the 12 colors?
When I keep looking at this puzzle I wish someone would make a Mega Crystal but with more cuts/pieces so that there a smaller pentagon in side the bigger so you could turn 2 layers on the top at once or 4 at the same time. Two top layers and two bottom layers at the same time.
Anybody understand what I'm saying? I hope!!!!!!!!!! Sorry I can't draw a picture of what I'm trying to say.

I don't quite understand
However, rather than try to draw out the entire thing and how it moves etc... could you draw what one side would look like? I think that would be relatively simple.

Eureka thats it!!!!! In my opinion I'd make them to be futher apart so that every piece is approximately close to each piece in size. I wonder what a 4 order and a 5 order Mega Crystal would look like.

it's close to the gigaminx, but the layers turn a different group of pieces.
for instance ... on the gigaminx, turning the second layer does not move the real edge (the one at the centerpoint of an edge)
Rest assured that it is a completely different puzzle...
I tried designing it first thinking it would be easier, but I was mistaken.

Hello Oleg,
I congratulate you on the completion of your new puzzle.
I want to point out only one.
The name of "Mega Crystal" is the proper noun attached to the puzzle which I made.
Moreover, Mr. Meffert named it "Pyraminx Crystal" to draft proposal once, and this is considered to be a general name.
Therefore, I think that your new work should be called with either "Pyraminx Crystal" or your original proper noun.
I will be glad if your consent can be obtained.
Thank you.

I don't know if this will work but you can try it. What you can do is go to the top of this topic to the far right of the date when the topic was posted there are 4 boxes that say quote, edit, arrow to go to the top of the page and a X for delete. Go th edit and redo the title

Hi Oleg!
Amazing work. Molodets!!
You and Mr. Okamoto managed to achieve the same puzzle using 2 different mechanisms! Wow!!!
By the way, What does Brilic mean if anything?

By the way, solving the pyraminx crystal isn't all that hard.
First, you solve the corners like an imposiball.
Second, you position the edges. This is quite easy if you observe that there are lots of pairs of slices which share exactly one edge.
Finally, you orient the edges (you can save a lot of time by both positioning and orienting a lot of the edges as you place them, but the last few generally need a real orientation sequence). To reorient two edges, position the puzzle so that one of the triangular pieces is facing you and the uppermost edge of it is exactly horizontal. We'll call the slice which touches the leftmost edge of that piece at exactly one point A and the one which touches the rightmost edge B. Now do A-2B2A2B-2. Then rotate the entire puzzle 120 degrees counterclockwise. Then do B2A-2B-2A2. Note that this is the inverse of the other sequence I just gave. Also note that this is a direct analogue of the sequence for reorienting edges on the regular pyraminx.
I wish there was a way of doing tags on this forum.

Why don't you recommend using a dogic mechanism for the ALEH'S BRILIC puzzle? To complicated? To many pieces?

how could one use a megaminx to build this, for a megaminx has centers which the pieces rotate around, but this puzzle however doesn't have centers for the pieces to rotate around

The edges and corners overhang the centers where they're pointy.

But you'd have to build up on the puzzle in order to create the Crystal edges since they are different from the Megaminx edges.
I still don't see how it can be done from a Megaminx. I only can see it from a Dogic.

xcool:
Pick up a megaminx from your collection. Then stare at it. The idea of the moving pieces would be something like the overlapping. The pieces must be raisen, so they can turn over the center pieces of the megaminx. And, of course, you need to build all the new pieces, which would be glued to the already existent ones of the megaminx. For example, the edges of the megaminx are quite thin, and, as you can see, the ones of the piraminx cristal are fatter. So, when you do the new pieces, the bottom part must be of the same size as the megaminx ones, but in the top part, the piece must has the size of the piraminx cristal. Can you understand it now?

It isn't just a centerless megaminx, if you turn a face it brings the edges under the corners of the face you're turning with it.
Look at DSCF0042.JPG in Aleh's first post in this thread. If you just built up the edges of megaminx, it would not turn like Aleh's Brilic.

I was thinking along the lines of what rastarubik describes above, but I imagined that it would be possible with initial truncation of some of the pieces thus enabling it to be quite the same size.
But reading skeneegees post I rather go on the lines of that and say it's not possible, until somebody corrects us...
xcool: Whas it something like skeneegees points you had in mind when finding it impossible to use a megaminx?

Also, it move the second layer of edges as well, which would make it have all the edges free floating even more.

Simply amazing!
Could you provide us with photos of the internal mechanism, so taht we can see how you could make this (remembering the discussion wether it was possible or not to do it from amegaminx)?

Great work Aleh,
Am I right in thinking the edges have to be made from scratch? I don't see how you can use the existing Megaminx edges. I understand if you don't wish to reveal this.
