I'm getting a 3x3x5 for Christmas, and want to learn to solve it, but since I haven't got it yet I'm trying to work out a method on my V-Cube 5.

Although I'm sure there are plenty of decent methods out there, I like the idea of solving it almost all by myself, with a little helpful shove from the people on the internet.

The only problem now is that I'm having problems switching around the faces on the cube, like the faces highlighted in the picture.

If anyone would know of any algorithms that switch these around without messing anything up, I would be very grateful

With green as the front face and red as the up face, (r U' r' U)x5 affects only those pieces.

I don't literally want to move those pieces, by just pieces similar to that.

on a 3x3x5, the extended pieces to not behave like that... you'd need a super 3x3x5 for them to do that. The extended pieces on a 3x3x5 act like a 3x3x2.
