Is it right?
I think Dinominx or VT dodecahedron is more correcter than Starminx - CT.
Course it looks like starminx but I think SM and DM is totally different puzzle so I want know you guys opinions.

I can't believe I missed this entire thread! :P

I think this is an awesome achievement. It will be nice to have a Dino-Dodecahedron, even if it is easy. As far as the number of axes not being equal to the number of arms, I've often wondered if the gem edges could be split to allow square rotation. A similar mod would be a lot more difficult on the Dodecahedron, though.

I believe the unequal ratio of arms to axes is a cost-saving factor. Less screws/springs means less cost for parts and assembly. But it still has to be tensioned to be a good mech.

I have been in Korea and join the meeting with the korean cubers in Cubemania Cafe during Chinese New Year !
Did i meet you too ?
Yes, we are not accepting the pre-order for Starminx I - Corner Turning.
We shall able to ship out the orders around 10 April if no delay from the factory.
Enjoy !

I look foward to it, but you really should rename it. This puzzle is not the Starminx I.

This is the real Starminx I(Face-turning)
And here are the other Starminx
Starminx II (Edge-turning)
Starminx III (Vertex-turning)

I think most people have been calling this the Dino-Dodecahedron, but I think Starminx 0 would be cool too.

Well it is definetely easy. Not much harder than a Dino Cube, which is really one of the easiest twistypuzzles there are.
And it sure is a LOT easier than any of the starminxes.

Yes, using the name Starminx I can be quite confusing. It's a dino-dodec. Very, very different than an actual Starminx.

The Starminxes were named according to the order in which they were made... correct? To me their numbering seems counter intuitive. I'd be tempted to number them according to their cut depth. That would still make this the Starminx 0. But the Starminx II would become Starminx 1, Starminx III would become Starminx 2, and Starminx I would become Starminx 3. Either way... they are great puzzles and a rose by any other name is still a rose. I'd love to see ALL 4 mass produced under ANY name.

Thanks for your suggestion.
I would like to add "Dino-Dodecahedron" on the name.

Yes, our naming system is based on the order of production, I, II, III ..etc.

Since having delay in assembly works and many orders, we have finished to post the 1st batch of orders, and continued to post to more and more orders very soon. Thanks for your patients.

Just figured this one out on Ultimate Magic Cube!

It's really fun, I like how you can get a double edge flip, making it a bit more challenging. When this is available, I'll get it if I have the money.

My mf8 Starminx I (their name, strickly speaking it is a vertex turning or dino dodecahedron or dinominx) has arrived and I have stickered it:

Image
Image
Image
See this thread and this thread for previous discussions of this puzzle. It is 91mm across, each pentagonal face has 41mm edges, so it is quite big.

It turns very smoothly, if a little stiff, but nothing that a bit of lube and a couple of solves won't cure. It does say mf8 on every centre pentagon, and this is visible through most of the stickers, but my photo does not show this very well. It comes supplied with 13 different colours, including black, so I guess they might be planning a white version as well.

It is a very nice looking puzzle. I can't wait for the Helicopter and Rex dodecahedra to be available.

Yesterday, mine has arrived too. It is not yet fully stickered, because another assembly project got into my way.
(I'll post about this soon. ) The Starminx is huge compared with my Mini Starminx from TomZ.
(I'll post a comparison photo, when I have finished the stickering.)
Regarding the solution it is the other way around: The Mini Starminx is a huge beast, while the Dinominx is a little, friendly puzzle :)
Turning is OK (before lubrication, afterwards it will probably be excellent.)

It does not. Many pieces on a theoretical icosahedral-cored puzzle do jumble but none of those are represented in this puzzle (i.e. this puzzle is not yet deep cut enough to allow for jumbling. The first jumbling piece is moved by two non-adjacent faces; in fact, it is the chirality of the pattern of these non-adjacent faces that causes the jumbling in the first place. As there is no piece on this puzzle that can be moved by two non-adjacent faces, there is no jumbling)

Peace,
Matt Galla

I have rexeived mine on Wednesday. Here it is, compared with a Mini Starminx from TomZ

As I have said in the other thread (Why do we have two threads about this puzzle, anyway?)

If you think this is nonetheless worth it, PM me. Heck, PM me either way.

Really strange, Lightake is displaying this as:

MF8 Tomz Mini Starminx

Exactly what I was trying to figure out how I could post without breaking any rules. I saw it and thought "Another one?!" and almost bought it, but then I realized it was the same thing. Haha.

Someone really needs to point this out to the companies, it is not the starminx I as we all know. They need to either call it the Dino dodecahedron, the starminx 0, or the starminx 4. I feel that with all these different names, someone somewhere at some time will buy a "Tomz mini starminx" and be greatly disappointed. Just my thoughts.

I understand somehow the logic of mf8 naming the vertex turning Starminx by V1 (it is their first version). Dinominx would have been less confusing for the experts, but the casual buyer would not appreciate the history behind "Dino". The misunderstanding at Lightake is nearly incredible. Someone has posted already at their forum to call it Dinominx.
On the other hand, as long as mf8 goes on with the name Starminx V1, this will confuse people too. :(

Like the people that will buy it from lightakes, wil probably know that's it's not tom'z one. Even if it's an speedcuber that buy it, and berly know about other "weird puzzle" somme people call them lol, the deiffrence will not be there.

The issue has been dealt with by Lightake quickly after I sent them an email. I also encouraged them to use the real name instead of Starminx and that partially worked. It would be quite interesting to find out how they made that mistake in the first place.

Drake, please check your spelling. Your post was full of mistakes.

Starminx I ICE Blue Body - Corner Turning ( Dino-Dodecahedron, Limited Edition ) has just been released and ready for sales.

The ICE blue body is hard to make, and costly to be produced, the factory will only have one-off production run.
This Limited Edition comes out shiny and beautiful, this is good for adding it into your collection.
Enjoy ! ^^

I normally don't like puzzles in colors other that black or white but this one looks really cool!

Sorry to bump. Today I saw a deeper-cut version of the vertex-turning dodecahedron (VTD) made by mf8:

It has got beautiful curves. It is much harder to solve than the previous VTD. Since it's still a VTD, I put this image in the existing thread.

This should be a prototype.
