Here is a video I made of the parity: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WjCMV5rirekHi guys, I was just wondering if anyone else has encountered this on their Gear Cube Extreme. I looked around a good bit and have only found the other parity where one gear is turned while the rest of the cube is solved. In this case, the puzzle is in cubic form, yet one edge is flipped while all other pieces are solved. I have solved this puzzle about 10 times before and just came across this today. I was wondering if anyone else has encountered this instance and knows how to solve it. (Edit: I should also include that I have tried redkb's algorithm: RUx2 Rx4 (or R'x4) R'U'x2 many times and have tried using it on many different faces. I honestly think I have tried this algorithm on every single face with all different edge orientations accounted for.) Thank you, Andrew P.S. This is kind of off topic, but this is indeed called 'parity' right? I know the term loosely and have looked it up before. All I have came up with is the mathematical term which means 'inversion'.

I don't think this should be possible. Each time you make a turn that moves the gears, they turn in increments of 120 degrees, which means the possible states of a gear relative to it's holding edge-piece are 0/120/240 degrees. Having it turned 180 after a full turn should not be possible.
I would guess somehow your gear slipped from turning it too fast? o__O I can't think of any other way.

I haven't dropped the puzzle or forced any pieces. The only way it could have done this is, as you said, the gear slipped. Or maybe this is a new parity? I've never heard of anyone encountering this, so I'm really confused as what I should do now. I could potentially, swap the stickers, or completely disassemble it and put it together correctly. But at the same time, if this parity is possible, I do want to solve it. Edit: Scrambled the puzzle again and here is what I came up with:

From the pictures I posted above, I did RUx2 (Rx4) R'U'x2. Which produced the following results. This is very confusing to me because in redkb's video, he shows a case extremely similar to this. The way he explains it (and also how I understand it), to solve this into cubic form the following equation should be used: RUx2 (R'X4) R'U'x2. This is strange because it reverses the puzzle to what it was before (in the pictures above). It is possible to turn exactly one gear 120 degrees, which is what redkb describes at the end of his video. Your case requires a 60 degree rotation, which again, should not be possible due to the nature of how the gears turn.
If you can't seem to stretch the puzzle enough to force the gear to rotate, you may have to disassemble it.

Does anyone know how to get a cap off in order to dismantle the puzzle? I've been trying at it for the last 45 minutes. Doesn't look like theres a cap there although I've seen videos where people pry off the cap (but on their regular gear cube). I've tried using a knife, flathead, and philips but still can't get it off. I even damage the plastic a little. :\

It might be glued on. Have you tried all of the caps?

Doesnt seem like they can be pryed off. I havent been able to find any small cracks. And when I pull up on the centers, they don't move at all.

I reluctantly pulled the stickers off and stuck them in the right edges. The black one was easy to replace because I had an extra sticker because black is the side with only 2 gears. Green on the other hand, I had to just reuse the sticker. Puzzle looks a little sloppy, but I saved my self many more cut fingers and the peace of mind that the puzzle is in solved cubic form.

The Gear Cube Extreme is a little springy. You should be able to pull a gap and turn the gear to the correct orientation.

Since the last post in this topic isn't quite yet 6 months old and I have relevant information, this post should be safe.
I have also gotten the one-gear rotated state, and it can be solved by putting your weird gear in UL and doing the following algorithm (this is more or less an exact copy of what jaapsch tells you to do): [U'R'R'R']x4 [R'U]x4 [R']x4
I hope this helps anyone who is Googling around for a solution to this and didn't read through jaapsch's excellent tutorial for some reason.
EDIT: You may have to perform this twice. If it doesn't work, then the gear has skipped a tooth, and you can force it solved without feeling like a cheater.

I should point out that Jaap has defined the notation differently from Kenneth (redkb) in his video. The single-gear fix (starting with the gear in UL) in redkb's WCA-compatible notation is: [U' R2' R2' R2']x4 [R2' U]x4 [R2']x4 If the gear is still sticking out, repeat the fix. Another useful algorithm from Jaap's page is orienting a single edge ("U" shaped pieces that are only stickered on the Ultimate) in each of the U and B layers. Position the single edges on UF and DF and (in redkb's notation) do: (R2 R2 R2 U) (R2 R2 R2 U) (R2' R2' R2' U') (R2 U2 R2') U (R2' U2 R2) U' (R2' R2' R2' U)
