What mechanism did you use? 5x5x5 mechanism?

Does it turn on the corners like the Pyraminx and/or the face like a Rubik's cube?

What colors are there?

All that I know is that I'd love to have one!!!!! Sorry!!!!

I still can't believe it is possible.

That's a very inventive use of an existing mechanism. I think I gave that particular puzzle some thought in the past, but I never went through with it. I'm happy to see it's very possible.

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Oleg, I hope you don't mind but I intend to make one for myself as soon as I can. With whatever little Time I can devote to the project. Maybe people will see my version of it in, oh, 5 or 10 years.

Answers to questions:
at manufacturing a master octahedron I used parts Mini Master Cube but the mechanism should be altered completely. Therefore it has taken away from me so much time (two months, about twenty hours per week)
For this reason I do not plan to repeat this puzzle in the future.
Right now I am not ready to show a master octahedron in the disassembled kind, excuse. I can tell only, that anything complex in a design is not present. It is strong and steady. I shall be glad to see, if somebody will make it of you.
It has following colors:
claret,dark blue,light blue,white,ellow,orange,red,green.
On the pictures you can see a colors and size.

Actually I think I'm more amazed by the 4x5x5. It takes a lot more work to make one of those by hand I'd imagine.

In 1989 I have made completely functioning 3x3x5 (16 years ago). It at me is till now. In 1999 I have made 4x4x4 because to get it at me there was no opportunity. Then there was a break in some years. Right now at me too NOT ENOUGH time, but I try to find it as unembodied ideas do not allow to sleep easy.

You are in the league of such grand puzzle makers as Tony Fisher, Anthony Greenhill and Mr. Okamoto!
After seeing your master Octahedron and Okamoto's Delta cubes, my current project does not look as exciting anymore!

Also i wonder how well is it turning compared with newer 4x4x4 cubes like rubiks.com or studio ?

Your master octahedron is masterpiece alongside other crazy large puzzles like 5x5x5 megaminx and the new 6x6x6 cube. I also admire more weird creations, like Greenhills last one. But i would never dream of puzzling with that one. It's too obscure. Hehe ...

At creation of my 4x4x4 (it was in1999, instead of in 1989) I nothing knew about the mechanism of a Master Rubiks cube. Therefore it was necessary to experiment and alter much. Also has borrowed it from me....... 6 months. The cube smoothly rotates, but the size is little bit more, than an original cube that is insufficiently convenient for hands. When I have arrived to America and have bought the original 4x4x4 cube, the first, that I have made - have disassembled it. Identity of mechanisms has pleasantly surprised me.

All lovely creations. But what material did you use to make the curved white parts of the 4x4x4? Were they carved, machined, molded, or cast?

I heated up above a gas cooker a sheet of ABS plastic to a soft condition and placed between details A and B. Unfortunately I have not kept these forms, therefore I can not show a photo, only figure.Details A and B in various diameters have been made on a lathe from strong plastic.

Thanks -- that's clear! I have used this technique to form a model aircraft fuselage from sheet plastic after carving a prototype from balsa wood. (I did not use a female form, though: just a suitably-shaped hole cut in a sheet of balsa.)
