I've seen the pillow cube alone go for that. November last year my mother was going around 2nd hand shops looking for something and came across one of these, scrambled. She saw it was some sort of twisty puzzle and so she decided to get it. She came home and gave it to me. I solved it (although a couple of stickers were missing) and saw it was a pillow. I didn't know how much it was worth, so I looked it up, and after seeing it was potentially worth over USD$100, I was speechless, as my mother had bought it for only NZD$1, which is about 60US cents! -Mark-

Sorry for double-posting on my favorite (but fairly dead) topic but something doesn't seem right about the seller's description... 1 (troy) pound, sterling cube: LINKDoes this piece really have diamonds and other (semi) precious gems, not to mention 18K gold on it? I thought that these were sterling silver only, with enameled/stickered cubies? Or is this perhaps this might be custom? If someone would fill me in on this, I would really appreciate it. Thanks Ben

Thanks Ben Read here for the explanation. The seller forgot to add the part I colored in blue. All of these 2,500 silver cubes got an appraised value of $10,000 as far as I can tell. They sold for $2,000/piece.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:ITmy first "collectible" puzzle purchase! im pretty glad about the rerelease of the PC, it put it into a buyers market for the originals so, well so how the value goes, but im not that concerned, im just glad i have one now! the owner painted the white tiles black, is there any good ideas about getting rid of that? id like it to be original state really. id thought about nail polish remover, or something mild, but will it damage the tiles? does anyone have experience with that?

I think that the description was very poor and if it mentioned that Drew had custom made it, it would have got a lot more interest. I did watch this but was unwilling to place a bid in simply because it did not mention who built it. Good descriptions and photos = strong sale prices.

I find it odd that someone who would spend what it takes to buy a hand built Teraminx from Drewseph wouldn't know to mention that in the auction or to post on TP about it. I think either would have improved the results. I know not everyone who might buy Drewseph's work has a TP account, but I would have figured it was a good bet. And even in this unlikely event I'm sure they could have even contacted Drewseph about perhaps posting for them, it isn't in his interest for this to sell low (unless he was the buyer... ). I suppose the lesson painfully learned here is that advertising is important. If you have any sort of custom puzzle and need to sell it for quick cash, post on TP! Dave

Well, I agree, that this was really a bad presentation for a wonderful puzzle. But overall - keep in mind, that the item was not sold because the reserve wasn't met. So the puzzle is still in the seller's hands and it will reappear with hopefully better pics and description.

Even properly represented, with a fully descriptive title, pictures, and authentication from Drewseph, I can't see it selling for more then 500-1000 bucks.
It's the nature of the beast.

Regarding the quality and being a handmade puzzle I'd say it shouldn't be sold below 700-800. But I know, that the cheap commercial copies will decrease the price and interest.

You are not supposed to post links to live auctions unless it is your auction. If it is your auction then the better place to post about it would be in the Marketplace.

Ahh, it's painful for me to see one of my favorite topics on the forum be so dead!! Understandably, the number of unusual vintage puzzles showing up seems to have decreased or have been drowned out by all the modern, new puzzle listings. I'll post several as a small revival: A great lot of vintage puzzles including a 2x2 Popeye Cube, The Original Boob Cube, Rubik's Trillion, Million space shuttle, and possibly a Deluxe Edition cube ... all for $78.00. I was the underbidder at $77.New Tomy Megaminx, $78.00Ben

Magic Jewel and Magic Octahedron, plus an assortment of 6 cubes - all for $88. It went a little over what I would be willing to pay, but nonetheless a very good deal still! Good job to the winner! Ben

It's been a while since I've seen one of these! Sterling Rubik's Cube for $500.00. I was somewhat interested, but what killed the deal for me was that there were no returns regarding authenticity, though unlikely a fake I did not feel comfortable pulling the trigger.

Just got my behind handed back to me on this one: Trial/Politechnika/Ideal Promotional Cube for $62.00. I was the underbidder and thought it was incredibly cool. I have no idea what it's really worth, but I guess someone wanted it more than I did. Nice snag if it's someone from the boards! Ben

Not really a twisty puzzle, but I got a steal on a Lights Out Cube, 14.95 + free shipping!!! http://cgi.ebay.com/Tiger-Lights-Out-Cu ... 4aa421e129 Well, it actually lights up, which is important to me This particular seller seems in the business of recycling/salvaging old computer junk, not selling rare collectibles. This one probably got dumped in a recycle/donation bin. Tons of people make a living on ebay picking up gems at Pawn/Thrift shops, cleaning them up, and reselling as rare collectibles. Guess I got lucky I saw two more of them on eBay for "Buy it Now" listings around $100. I remember getting the Tiger 6x6 Lights Out as a kid (I think it was Christmas or Birthday) but this was the Lights Out version I really wanted but never got As an added bonus, it looks like a Rubik's Cube!

At IPP30 I traded some half height Elementals for this Nickel cube with leather inset stickers. It arrived in the mail last month but I forgot to post about it. It has a nice weight to it, and I love the leather. Enjoy, Dave

Not your ordinary yellow box, but it's white? Could someone more knowledgeable on this please tell me why this is white as opposed to yellow, and if there is anything special to it? I would appreciate learning about it! I was the underbidder at $31.00 and had initially planned to fight harder for it, but I remembered how much I've spent on puzzles this year and decided I wouldn't bid as much :S Thanks, Ben Good thing you did not bid higher since I remember that auction well. The box was originally yellow but it turned white from being so badly faded from the sun. It looked like it was displayed near a window for many many years. I too thought it was rare when I first saw it but after asking the seller some detailed questions they had said it was sun damage and possible moisture under the shrinkwrap which caused the discoloration.

Thank you for the information! It had occurred to me that it could possibly be sun damage, but I believe that I didn't stick to that because I thought the black and shrink wrap looked too good still! I'm a sucker for odd/different things, and usually bid them. Glad that you actually found out more from the seller and thanks for sharing! Ben

I have moved this topic to Puzzle Collecting, which feels like a better home for it. So now we have a few different topics to choose from when you want to post about a puzzle you have received: Items you don't see every day or that sold for a high priceAlthough it isn't explicitly stated, this has become mainly about puzzles on eBay. Reserved for exceptional items or prices as the title states. Unlike the other topics this topic allows for puzzles that you don't win yourself but may have been following. Packages Just Arrived with Rare PuzzlesA very happy thread about the joy of receiving something special. Holiday packagesA thread about receiving holiday packages that are fun to share but don't meet the "rare" threshold above. Restricted to puzzles actually received (not what is in the mail) and pictures are expected. Packages with less rare puzzles!A final thread for those cases that aren't so rare and not received on a holiday. Dave

Now, it's the first time ever that I saw this puzzle on eBay. Obviously, not many recognized it as one of the rarest puzzles from the former Soviet Union. Otherwise I believe the competition would have been much more fierce, and the final price would be much higher. Meet Olidjus, sold for only US $357.52 after just 6 bids. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0412196737

I miss this thread being active and interesting auctions being posted almost every day. This thread partly inspired me to start collecting puzzles. I also sense that there is a lack of spirited bidding nowadays! Nonetheless, I'll add a couple things, though not as exciting as some auctions from a few years back: Rotos Puzzle, with box, $100V-Minx, $29Politechnika Cube & Box, 49.67 GBPMaybe I should frequent eBay UK and eBay Germany more. A 3-wing, 3-color roundy sold by Bryan for $75. I've rarely seen these sell lately... in fact, I can't remember the last time I saw one for sale! A Deluxe Edition Cube, logo on red for $42.00. Trillion in Box for $51.20. I don't recall seeing one in the box for sale before. Ben

Who knows how many puzzles on earth has nintendo produced, besides the ten billion, the more rare trillion and the rarest crossover? And a link I don't know whether to call it high price or low, I only watched it but did not bid: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 0564189316
