I came across these looking through some old batches of pictures. I figured I would share (although I may regret sharing the first picture...:)) and open up this as a topic for posting pictures you find of you with your puzzles from long ago. Let's consider "long" to be 10+ years.

Sorry if this particular topic is a bit slanted toward the older members of the forum. If you aren't old enough to post an old picture, don't worry! Take one now and we'll forgive a bump in 10 or so years :)

Image
Me, probably Christmas 1982. Note there are three cubes in this picture, and yes, I was happy to get them.
Image
Me, probably around 1992 or 1993. I had just found the Bandelow 5x5x5 (Udo Krell mechanism, same as Rubik's) at Games of Berkeley.

I don't have anything from 2003 on hand. Perhaps by 2013 I will find one and can post one for each decade.

Dave

Nice pics. Although I got my first Rubiks Cube (keychain cube) about 10 years ago, I don't have pictures.

If more puzzlers respond, this topic has the potential to become
one of the most favourite ones! Absolutely priceless photos!!!

As for me, sadly I cannot find any such puzzle photos. If there exist
(somewhere inside a hermetically closed box down at a dark basement),
it would be me either holding a Whippit (I still remember the early 80s
commercial in Greece and the fuss I did to my parents to get one), and
then a few more in the early 90s, with a Football Masterball, Master Magic
and a Tomy Pyraminx. There could also be photos I have forgotten their existence!

:)

It's a real shame, all my child hood photos were at dad's house. I'm pretty sure none were saved when he had that fire. The oldest cubing photo I have is of the bug at about 18 months. Funny, I have very few photos of me playing with my toys.

But all the rest of you had best keep posting these photos because I just love them!

Nice pictures!
I want to see more!

After 3-4 more years I'll have to post some pictures here!
(I have started the cubing at 2003) :D

I got my first cube in 1983, but I don't think I have any pictures of my playing with cubes, well, ever. I regret that now.

Let's stay on topic or we'll have a bunch of "these will be old in 20 years" photos which is entirely another thread.

By rights I should delete this post but the picture and puzzles are so nice I can't bear to :)

Old photos only please, defined as ten years before the date of the post.

Dave :)

P.S. As penance perhaps traiphum should send me one of those puzzles. Yeah... ;)

This isn't exactly a puzzle, but it's a puzzle game. I'd say it's close enough. This was from my 5th birthday at Burger King back at the end of 1981. One of the best birthday presents I ever got. A Pocket Simon!

I love the overalls and plaid shirt. Ironically, I still wear plaid. My hair is a little darker now and less plentiful.

I've stumbled upon the picture below by accident and as not many have posted here, I want to share it.
It shows me and my little son back in 1981. (No, I'm not the little one :) ).
I guess the cube was the 3rd generation of Cubes I had got. The first I got from Hungary was solid plastic, no springs. I used to be a climber at that time and had strong hands, so I could turn it
Unfortunately, this cube and many others got lost in a fire 1983. (Better the cubes than the kids.)

Actually, those logs have not been involved. :) My wife forgot to extinguish a candle of the advent wreath. It was no real fun, but not a big danger. as well.
Unfortunately, the candle was on a table with a lot of Lego toys from the kids and with all my cubes. (10 or so). You can not imagine the smoke and dirt in the house. It happend four days before Christmas Eve. We got all the rooms painted until Christmas, though :D

The Jolt Cola in the picture is great! Still remember the slogan "All the sugar, and twice the caffeine."

Here's a photo of me solving the cube on the local news in 1982 after winning first place in the Peoria, Illinois Ideal Cube-a-Thon competition. My family and friends are in the background.

I would absolutely love to buy some of the puzzles in that clipping. The prices are great!

By the way, I would also like to "Challenge the Champion" is that program still going?

Here is one from the evening in 1982 that I bought my first 4x4x4 (Rubik's Revenge). Of course I immediately disassembled it, then my uncle and I spent a good hour putting it back together.
