Dave, I'm glad to see you finally got your hands on the Olympic rings! I've been watching a few, bid on a few more and was wondering if it was you outbidding me Trade is much better than a purchase any day! And that cheese looks beautiful! Nice nice trade!

Not the rarest of puzzles, but they are becoming increasingly rare and the price in which I bought it for was unbelievable. It is such an amazing puzzle and a still can't believe I finally have one Attachment:

Agreed. They are beautiful puzzles, and they look great in the collection. And lucky you for having a black one. I have a black and a silver one, and I prefer the black as puzzles look better having stickers on them!

Thanks guys.
A quick question, my Golden Cube has recessed lettering rather than the raised lettering I have seen on the other Golden Cube puzzles. Is there a particular reason for this?

Ryan Only my black one is like that for some reason. As SEBUVER said, the letters are recessed so you can apply stickers and I think they are from a second run of Golden Cubes. I have every golden cube including a mixed white and black one (6 in total...you could sense that this is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PUZZLE) . Its weird because the mixed white and black signed cube seems to NOT have the recessed lettering. Im guessing this stems from the fact that more than one puzzle run was made. Chris My black one has the multi-color scheme... AND I LOVE IT! Picture of my black golden cube...I don't play with the other 5...they live in a big shadow box with signed cubes/Dogic...

Focus guys. This isn't an overly rare puzzle (an original, now there you would have something to post about!) and it seems we have wandered from there, so let's get back to rare puzzle, Feel free to start a topic about the Golden Cube issue separately if you wish and I can merge posts into it. The puzzle is also called Wisdom Ball. On the box in the picture it is mentioned that it won the Gold Medal at the Geneva Invention Exhibition in 1994. The same information is also on the packaging Rox referred to in her link.

Hey, just showing what I received in the mail over the past few days: a rhombic dodecahedron 5x5x5 from Habivon and an "all four one, one for all puzzle" from Pantazis. Both are wonderful puzzles!

Yes, I just saw that one! A bit ironic that after so long I finally get one right when one comes up for a reasonable price. But then again if I were bidding would it would probably have gone higher. Congrats!

My magnets for the Mini Pentultimate designed by Greg arrived yesterday! I won't post any pictures, as I'm having some trouble keeping them in, but I know it'll be a lot of fun.

A Rubik's Cube Display - item 2103-0 (Ideal) This is a very interesting piece of history. I was not aware that such displays existed. I have a German display cube since 1981, but this American one beats the German one by far. Attachment:

Additionally the cube is one of the very early Hungarian produced ones. The weight and the plastic fin on the edges hint at the age. Below the German display cube:

I dont dare to scramble this one, yet! I really wish I had just a little idea of how to solve it. It moves so nice, so when I find out how to solve it, it will be a real treat to play with it for real

Timur's Master Faceturning Octahedron Timur's original postEbay auctionTimur at Ebay wrote: This is the first and to date the only physical Master FTO in the world and I have no idea when others will come, because I do not intend to build other ones (at least in the near future).
So it is rare, isn't it: Timur at Ebay wrote: Due to complex mechanism and high number of pieces the puzzle is not meant for fast solving. All layers must be properly aligned before making a turn. If a turn seems apparently hindered, never apply force. In case you do, you’re not likely to break anything, but chances are you’ll see the mechanism in all its beauty Because of these relatively strict requirements I see this puzzle more as a collector’s item than a solver’s one. Until now, I have not seen the beauty of the mechanism and I'll try to avoid it for some time. But I feel the danger, whenever I'm turning it, that it will happen sometimes. Honestly, I believe that it would turn much better, if all pieces would be printed. (Probably, this puzzle will be the last puzzle I'll ever buy with casted pieces.) EDIT: With Timur's permission, I'll add here parts of a PM discussion I had with him: Timur wrote: konsassen wrote: Somehow, it feels dangerous, as it could explode anytime, but so far nothing bad has happened Well probably I exaggerated it a little bit, I just did not want to describe the puzzle better then I think myself about it, so that the buyer does not get too disappointed. It's not actually a big thing to install a popped piece back konsassen wrote: Have you ever completely scrambled and solved it? No, I thought that it would be too hard to solve! konsassen wrote: May I ask, why you have chosen a mixture of printed and casted parts? Wouldn't a fully printed puzzle be much better? It would surely be much more accurate and better, but I was not sure in the mechanism and did not want to spend much on a 3D-printed prototype. Casting set cost me about €100, full printing would have been about twice of that. Also I wanted to get some experience in casting - but honestly I didn't like this procedure so I don't think I'll cast anything else (but who knows) Now when I know how it works, of course it's possible to redesign it for 3D printing, taking into account all the weak points that I found in the prototype. When I had read this, I thought that the feel of danger was more a psychological thing, due to Timur's warning. Then it happened: Still going on with careful turns, the puzzle became completely loose at once. It was like a still explosion inside. It was not the popping of one piece, but everything got loose. I had to remove several pieces and while trying to pop back one corner into the inner mechanism, two third of the puzzle fell onto the table I'm no expert for mechanisms, but my impression is that this inner mechanism is too weak for the puzzle, especially with the casted pieces. The corners are the only pieces plugged and screwed into the spherical Skewb core. All other pieces are plugged in between the corners. No further internal parts making it more stable. My verdict is: Timur has not exaggerated and my feeling of danger is quite justified. I'm afraid I'll never be able to solve it, because I will see "the mechanism in all its beauty " too often. Definitely, a printed version would be a partial solution, only. IMHO, some real enhancements of the mechanism are necessary to make it more stable. BTW it was very difficult to reassemble it, because there are so many loose pieces. This post sounds a bit critical now, but I wanted to be honest (and, remember, Timur had been honest as well). Not many of the enthusiastic posters in the original thread, will envy me by now

I've won traiphum's 2x3x4 cuboid in an Ebay auction. This thread contained some information about the puzzle itself: http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopi ... =4&t=19427Original thread hereTraiphum wrote: I will reveal for this mechanism someday, Maybe, this is the time? Traiphum has sent some pictures of the mechanism to me, but it is up to him to disclose more, if he chooses so. The quality (and this includes turning quality as well) is really amazing. The finish is incredibly good. As this one is not fully functional, I've ordered Garrett's 2x3x4 cuboid as well. I'll make a brief comparison when I have got both of them. Solving is easy, but not completely trivial. And here it is together with a (not so rare?) miniature metal puzzle from Roxanne that has arrived today: EDIT: I had just completed this post and was playing with the mentioned puzzle, when I could see the mechanism "in all its beauty". While I was doing some shapeshifting moves, one part of the puzzle came apart (Yes it does shapeshift, because I can do a 90 degree turn of the 2x4 faces and then I can make a 180 degree turn around the axe going through the centre of the 3x4 faces - the white/yellow faces. But I cannot turn around the axe going through the 2x3 faces.) Assembly wasn't quite easy and I'm happy that traiphum had provided pictures and hints for disassembling it. He had told me that disassembling is easy, but assembly is hard. He was quite right

Man I'm so jealous of all of you. I live quite far from the States (Which is where I think all the good cubes come from) plus I'm not an adult so I don't own a credit card, which leads to me being unable to buy cubes online.

I am half eay round the world from where I started. I find many many more puzzles than those poor lads back home Credit cards and age have nothing to do with it. It's more perseverance and sore feet from walking into many distant streets....

And I can't walk all the way to US...*sigh* I'll just have to wait until I get older. At least than I own a credit card and am able to buy cube online

If you have access to buying puzzles online, then why are you complaining? Only people like Rox can walk to awesome puzzles everyday. Most of these puzzles comes from Shapeways or eBay auctions. So long as you have access to the web and PayPal or a credit card you can get most of the puzzles that everyone else gets.

There's not actually not a lot of cubes in the US... there's a bunch in China, you just need to know where to look. My friend goes to china every year or so, and he brings back tons of "rare"(I'm assuming rare means anything not 3x3x3 or 2x2x2) cubes such as skewbs and cuboids, all things not available in the US where I live.

Could you ask your friend where he find the cubes. I have a cousin who live in China and it struck me as a good idea to ask her help me buy some cube. Thanks
