Hello puzzlists of the world, Today I got an order I am quite happy with. At nationals me and Will_57 where talking about a void gigaminx and ways it could be done, our first attempt involved a c4u gigaminx (what where we thinking). That failed Our second attempt is a full 3d print and here is the world first multi layer void puzzle (centers gone) Turning is near perfect but corner cutting is meh, catching should become less common as the puzzle breaks in This puzzle is now dyed and stickeredThanks will_57 for helping me design this puzzle and making my mech come to life, it was a pain but worth it Enjoy New Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ci7ZJsqsjwsVideo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ly-1eZHx0Fs

In my opinion the Void 6x6x6 isn't a Void Puzzle, in the sense that it doesn't turn like a 6x6x6.
Could this mech be used to make a great Gigaminx too? From what I've seen of the mech, it could work.

Yes, that is a void puzzle... It has some of the center pieces missing, and it turns like a normal 5x5x5.
Anyways, let's not go off topic.

Excellent job! It turns so much better than the gigaminx that I just may throw mine out. In fact, you should also print "temporary centers" (easy) that you can put in the holes (easy, except for last one) so you can temporarily transform it into a (non-void) gigaminx.

Well if you don't count that one... what about this one? http://www.youtube.com/user/OskarPuzzle#p/u/28/D5iOo5DlItgCarl I said this is the first multilayer with the centers gone meaning the true center piece not off center parts Dont get me wrong its an awesome puzzle i just feel as if a void cube needs the true centers gone

Seriously awesome puzzle. cant wait to see it dyed/stickered.
Does this puzzle mean any puzzle mad using he v mech and be "voided"?
Who knew the best turning gigaminx would be a void one? XD

How about extending the voidness? Would it still be able to turn (grooves)?? Per

Does this use the void method on the existing Void Megaminx where the face centers are fixed to the core and you see them mid rotation? Or does it use the void method found on the void cube where the face centers rotate with the layer and the opening always remains square?
Personally I like the later method and I've been waiting for someone to apply that method to the Megaminx. Maybe that has already been done and this is an extension of that.
Either way... cool puzzle, Carl

Since I designed the puzzle, I'll answer a few questions. gingervergo wrote: Does this puzzle mean any puzzle mad using he v mech and be "voided"? To my knowledge, yes. Drewseph wrote: Fantastic design! I'm amazed it works so smoothly, how hard was it ti assemble? Sky says that the puzzle was very easy to assemble. I was surprised, as the core probably has very little springiness. I'd also like to mention that part of the reason why the puzzle turns so nicely is probably because of the tolerance advice you gave on IRC, so thank you for that! wwwmwww wrote: Does this use the void method on the existing Void Megaminx where the face centers are fixed to the core and you see them mid rotation? Or does it use the void method found on the void cube where the face centers rotate with the layer and the opening always remains square? It's a combination of both. The core looks almost identical to a Holey Megaminx core, but the centers can rotate. The rest of the pieces just use a V-mech. Thanks for the kind comments everyone!

This looks insanely awesome. I can't believe how well it turns. I do find it a bit ironic that one of the best turning Gigaminxs is also the only voided one! GREAT JOB SKY AND WILL! Have fun with stickering I think my experience with stickering Gigaminxs has made me slightly twisted in the head.

glad to see this puzzle finally completed. really great job guys. I cant wait to see what this mechanism is applied to in the future. have you considered combining it with the shells mech? you could actually do a void redi cube, and many many other cool puzzles if I'm not mistaken.
