It's funny how EVERYONE breaks this rule at least once a week. Why not just change it... no guessing is quite annoying, it's not like someone will be evil enough to copy someone else's design.

Well, this thread is mostly for puzzlers vending out their frustration for puzzles they really
want to show, but for certain reasons they cannot do this yet.

I don't think anyone (including me) would object if this accommodates more than just
a few replies, i.e., as long as we don't focus too much on a specific design, it should be alright.

Dave... any thoughts?

:)

It's alive... How is this for a name? O3CTMC. Yes, I know what this is so you can read that as a hint if you like.

Andreas might prefer O3CTMH.

That's pretty good. Maybe you'd like to mention that again in the official topic.

So here's my next hint (that you're, for a change, not allowed to guess at): it's such a good concept Oskar advised me not to disclose it. Now if that shouldn't make things clear...

This child is the third of the older children on the street. each child behaves in a different manner, and come from different families, yet they look as though they were identical triplets.

This reminds me of your first hint

Which leds me to believe you're talking about this family. I don't think he's making the dino just because there's several of them already and I guess I just have higher expectations from Drewseph based on his previous work.
Image GB 1.1.5 - Starminx - Face turning (Drewseph already made one)
Image GB 1.2.1 - Dino Dodecahedron - Vertex turning (Drewseph hasn't made one afaik)
Image GB 1.2.6 - no name yet - Vertex Turning (my guess for what Drewseph is hinting about now)
Image GB 1.4.2 - Starminx 2 - Edge Turning (Drewseph's first hint was about this)

What do you get if you cross a chameleon with a black hole?

The answer is ... a puzzle I designed and made about 15 years ago, and plan to make again soon.

Thanks to what TomZ made recently, this could be ANYTHING.

That's beyond impressive. I still don't understand why you'd post it here of all places. This is the "hints" thread, not the "showing off" thread. Actually the whole New Puzzles forum is dedicated to showing off.

My main motivation was to enforce your directions in the first post, but there is also a bit of a concern that it will become a thread with but a few hints and a deluge of "guesses", most of which are not serious (i.e. "triple fused void petaminx"). Then few would actually read it.

Dave :)

ok ok... so I will also continue to stick with those initial conditions.
And if a design is "meant to be guessed", it deserves to have a topic of its own anyway!

I confirm. Tom's new concept is Okamoto Void Cube / SuperFloppy class, better than Latch Cube or Kepler Cube, and definitely better than much of that Oskar stuff. Tom, thank you for secretly sharing your new concept with me, and allowing me to tease our Twisty Puzzles friends. Oskar

It looks and turns like a once very sought after custom puzzle, but hidden beneath lies one of the old time Meffert favourites.

Four hints for four puzzles:

1. The Cute Cube! (way too cute to describe)

2. Happier-Cube (it is Hyper-Cube's brother who suffers from... excessive happiness! )

3. Eight cubes can sometimes be equal to many "one cube"s!

4. Hocus Pocus... Abacus!!!

God, that was tough, very tough, probably the most difficult puzzle I had ever built when it came
to completely draining my mental energy... but... it works!!! I am glad the prototype is done.
(and I wanted to log the time that I completed it, this thread works nicely as a diary! :) )

I have built some super tedious puzzles in the past, but this was a combination of a tedious
structure as well as having the requirement of being concentrated at all times.

So, as I said, it works... or should I say, "it's alive! it's alive!!!"

:D

In the distance at the top of a hill I can make out the shape of a dinosaur standing next to a rather humongous tree! The creature is hard at work. He is wearing a red plaid vest with an axe in his grip. As I get closer I can see now that he is talking to his son. As I listen closely I can hear that the father is giving lessons to the little guy on using an axe to chop wood. I want to ask him why he's trying to cut down this tree, tell him that "You're just a dinosaur. Not a lumberjack! You must be drunk!" but instead I shake my head and walk away from them both. I can still hear the father hard at work, burying that axe in the trees side.

To me it doesn't matter what it is any more. Because after reading that wonderful mini-novel,
I am convinced that the puzzle itself will be a piece of art!

So many descriptive words in that hint Drew. Hard to pick out which ones are the meaningful ones. My guess first though was that you're finishing the starminx, but then you mention several other clues. Here's the clues I think are important:
Dinosaur's son = Compy cube?
Chop = Little Chop ?

So my guess is Little Chop + Compy Cube.

kastellorizo wrote:

Drewseph always make stunning puzzles. It's been a while since he's made anything (Starminx III excluded of course). It's nice to see what his brilliant mind comes up with again.

So I've been walking for an hour. Today has been a strange day, I never saw a Dinosaur, let alone one trying to be a lumberjack. The path I am on has led me to a building that looks like a test facility. Everything seems to be white labeled with yellow labels warning of hazards in the area. I stroll up to the glass to take a peak inside and notice a group of scientists holding up a grape in their hands and applauding. Confused to their excitement I back away from the window and walk around the corner to try to find another exit from the promises. It seems that this place is also an old farm, I can easily find my way back to the main road form here. As I reach the main road of the top secret 'farm' I can't help but grab one of the many watermelons they are growing. I don't think they'll miss any of them, man its so hot.

Wow :D
The first one I could pick out puzzle related words but that just sounds like a strange dream. I really look forward to seeing what it is.

A hint of my own
The word micro is too large to describe this puzzle, that is if I can find all the parts. At less then a dollar, I might want shapeways to print a couple extras incase I lose any of the 33 pieces.

Following Drew's lovely novel style writing:

"Diodorus Siculus pondered of what it might have been. The shabby and colorful flowers betrayed some beauty
beyond the pragmatic senses. Then he remembered. He remembered Queen Semiramis, and realised that
even Herodotus ascribed to her the artificial banks that confined the Euphrates river. Her extroverted charm
and bullying sulkiness struck him like a soundless thunder. It was the flowers, aaaah... the flowers.
Babylon and the Hanging Gardens have made a secret accord with the Queen, to attain eternity.
"

I don't know why I didn't think of posting here to relieve the pressure that is building inside of me. So let's give a clue much like Drew's:

I was walking along the road one day and as I walked I saw a piece of metal. It was a cube that I could not twist, but when I picked it up it dissolved into white powder. As I continued walking, I noticed that the road had many different paths. I knew where I was going, but alas I had forgotten about Drewseph's Lumberjack's and how they had a caber-tossing contest today. So I returned to where I came from and found a large telephone pole. I brought it with me as I continued to my destination: where all roads end. I then cut off 4 pieces from the pole and put them in my pocket. Upon further treading in an illogical direction, I met Alice trying to light a fire in some rabbit-holes. I promptly gave her the 4 pieces of telephone pole, but she could only use 2 of them. Nonetheless I continued and shortly found myself at a school. I entered and knew that somehow, there was an object hidden in the halls. It was not near the ceiling nor the floor, but against the walls. Alas, no matter how hard I searched, I could not find it!! Then, I realized that I had erred in my quest. I suddenly quickly grabbed one of the students, spun him around, and sent him flying down the hall. It was at that moment that my wish was fulfilled.

It's not Twisty

If you squeeze some cubes which are not really cubes,
then you obtain some puzzle which *is* a puzzle!!!

I just finished assembling that puzzle I mentioned earlier. Not only is it a combination of two production puzzles, it also looks exactly like two puzzles: one production (which is one of the two it is a combination of) and one custom.
Did I mention it will break your brain?

 That's a good one. :D I'm lucky I already know what it is.

So do I. I'm pretty sure no one will get even close to guessing that.

You picked your words very carefully, didn't you? I love puns and plays on words!

I just realized that I was hinting at the solution of the puzzle, not what the puzzle itself is (although all puzzles of its type are similar enough that the solution makes it unique and identifiable, not the shape or size or material). This means that Steryne will not be able to get the answer to my riddle in public. As I said, not a Twisty. But here's something that might help you:

Whether outside or in, what you seek is not on the same side as I.

I deceive you in my looks, for what I think I am may be what is thought of me but neither is correct.

Skill is needed to craft my inner workings to create an extra alarm system in a house that is usually made of steel.

Conductivity? I think not. But rest assured that you will create another sort of shocking experience with this little devil

I'm working on a puzzle with 18 unique pieces (19 with the core).

The total number of pieces of this puzzle is... 18

I'll be making a few miniature puzzles. If those are a success, I'll be creating something much more complex.

A puzzle with 19 unique pieces and only 18 pieces? I think you lost a piece

My puzzle looks EXACTLY like a 3x3x3 when solved. When scrambled, it looks like a bump cube. How does that work out? Also it has 54 centers to rotate on.

Mini mini mini 6x6x6 I'd say.
