hey i was just wondering if you who read this have a rubiks revolution in your twisty puzzle collection

No I do not and why would you want it? Its not a puzzle.

I dont but every so often i get one as a gift and i have to paste on a fake smile and put it with my collection for a while

What happens to it later?

I only get gifts if I specifically request them, though that hardly ever works. So I've never gotten one. I never will, either. I mean, Rubik's website has a free applet for it. I don't even know how they got popular.

like i got three for christmas they usually get cut on the lines and used for cubies for mods like 2x2x3 3x3x2 ect.

It's great for gift, otherwise, I don't think it's akind of puzzle

I just got given one of these and I have to say I was very disappointed with it although my 2 year old niece likes it a lot

When these first came out, there was a news clip (that I think was linked in a post on this forum) of a female reporter talking about the latest Rubik's toy. In the 2-minute clip, she referred to peeling stickers on the original cube at least four times. The thrust of her report seemed to be:

1) She never solved the original cube, and cheated by moving the stickers.

2) This new toy has no stickers.

3) You don't have to mess with the stickers on this one, as there are none.

My guess is that this toy appeals to two groups of people. First, there are those who are thrilled that there is something cube-shaped and with the Rubik name on it that they can "do". The second group is those who know someone who likes twisty puzzles, and assume that those friends will also like this product, based on the branding.

To those who have received these as gifts, it may or may not help to know that this sort of thing occurs in other hobbies as well. I am a coin collector, and when the first state quarters came out in 1999, one enterprising company bought up several of them and applied colored enamel to the designs on the reverse sides. Then they put the coins in a nice display case and sold them. I received two sets of these coins from different people who didn't understand that I collect coins rather than coin novelties.

@rickssg I'm not surprised one bit about the reporter. Frankly, not a single puzzle has ever had a respectable news report. The best was probably the Rubik's 360, but even that was pretty aweful. It's annoying how every time someone reports on it, they neither show interest nor allow the puzzle to be demonstrated.

I have 3 of them. (Original, Titanium, Keychain) I do like them though. A lot of times, they make for a great gateway into the puzzling world when I am looking to spark interest in a friend of mine. And it is in fact a puzzle. If not all the functions, code cracker (Code breaker?) is most certainly one that is.

I have the key chain one. Don't play it though. Just have it...

I still don't get it. Why would non-Twisty Puzzles have their own forum on Twisty Puzzles.COM?

Here are the reasons (and I have said them before!)

1. Twisty puzzles can have many other variants which are hybrids (especially lately!)
Some of those hybrids belong to intermediate categories. There is no fine line to
where they belong, and it will be unfair to set such a cumbersome fine line.

2. Because of the 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube, *all* puzzles have become known to the world and
have been accepted so widely. So this place deserves to be the main source of *all* puzzles.

3. Exposure to different puzzles and mechs, can be an inspiration for new ideas.

4. There are many non-twisty puzzles which are regarded "twisty". Rubik's Shells,
Sliding puzzles, Electronic ones, etc etc etc.



Therefore, for a puzzle to be listed here, being a twisty puzzle can be a requirement, not a necessity.

Astrolabacus! I know you have an open one, Pantazis. I demand a thread for it! It's only partially twisty! It belongs here more than anywhere else, IMO.

Indeed, I have an opened Astrolabacus!

But the definition which is being used for a puzzle to be considered as "twisty"
(always not in the strict of the definition of the word) is for the puzzle to be
"one-piece mathematical puzzle".
