After several month of planning and reworking, my "higher-order" megaminx, the "Gigaminx" (the name of which I've borrowed from AmazonMike), is finally complete. When I first started drawing up plans, the concept seemed simple enough, but I had no idea how much work was in store. This was a true labor of love as I've dedicated all of my puzzle building interests into this one project. It turned out ok for a prototype, but it does turn a bit wonky when certain layers line up. In any case, I'm proud of my accomplishment and I present it here now for your consideration. I've been having some problems with my digital camera so I've only uploaded a pic of it's solved state. I hope to get some scrambled pics up as soon as I get things in order...

I can't believe what I see.
Please confirm, that this picture is not an April Fool's joke.

If it is an April Fools joke, he probably spent as much time doing the photoshoping as he would havve actually making it =)
My first impression was that it is an april fools joke, but the picture is pretty convincing.

Look very closely at the outer layer of cuts. They are narrower than the normal megaminx slices, and don't seem to be actual cuts, rather just grooves. This effect could be achieved with a megaminx & a file.
Um... does this make me a spoil-sport? Sorry!

If it's a joke, I'll have to hate you for the rest of... forever! This is *THE* puzzle I've been dreaming of and if it becomes reality that would be so ultimately cool.

Tip for good living (not just potential puzzle pranks!):
If it looks too good to be true, and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is too good to be true.
Sean is either pissed that we doubt his genius, or trying hard not to wet himself laughing. I can't wait to hear from him, either way!

I'm taking that line as a hint! We're going to need a new database category for "April Fools Jokes"! Nice work, Sean!
> 310 stickers !!!!
Let's see 310/12 = 25.83 stickers per face. That is a lot. Or is this a joke within a joke, and I'm making it funny by sticking my foot in my mouth here?!

It looks like I've got to get up a little earlier in the morning if I'm going to completely fool you guys. April fools! You have to admitt I had some of you at least wondering. No months of planning and reworking and no gigaminx protoype, just some free time last night with photoshop and my megaminx. Looks like I'll have to think of something a little more creative for next year.
Stefan, don't hate me forever, just for today. With all of the amazing puzzle mods I've seen people create, I imagine it's only a matter of time before we see a real gigaminx.

Wow.. That megaminx looks so easy after staring at that gigaminx . And yes, you also had me fooled . I did have a funny feeling about the date, though. But the picture looked pretty realistic. Well done!

Sure give me a heartattack why don't you!!!!!! Dorn I was going to hopefully put money aside to by this Gigaminx puzzle which I always wanted since Tyler Robbins drew it on here first(twistypuzzles forum). Is 1K ok for the down payment? (joking) Two can play at this little game.
I know I'm not mechanism expert but these are my $.02 any way. I always thought you could make this Gigaminx by using 2 5x5x5's cubes, restructure each piece so that it looks and moves like a Gigaminx. Yes! Yes! I know easier said then done!!! I'll be quiet!!!

Actually let me thank you. Until recently I only had a weak image of it in my head. Then the computer simulation appeared and I had a first chance to really see what it would look like. But your picture is of course a lot more realistic and I love it.

It is a REALLY nice picture. It looks quite realistic, even a little misaligned near the corners! Great! And the reflection is nice too.

Quote: And the reflection is nice too.
I was wondering if anyone had even noticed that. When it came to fooling you guys, I didn't want to pass up any details since you all have such astute eyes. I'm sure I missed quite a few details I could have fixed (as well as created some scrambled images in mid-turn for that matter). If I hadn't started making it less than 2 hours before midnight to meet the "deadline", I might have done a more convincing job.

Absolutely! The reflection was so convincing, I didn't even consider Photoshop; I thought you'd taken a file to a megaminx! (I'm glad you didn't BTW )
