Recently, Meffert has released a newsletter involving a topic I posted. I now am rereading his letter, and my forum post which I have learned a lot about KO companies from.

Some gaming websites I am a member of do not allow guests to view pictures, youtube links, and download links. Once you become a member, you must have 10 forum topics created to view the pics and links.

I highly suggest we do this, to prevent KO companies and others from viewing pictures and links meant for the TwistyPuzzles community.

Before people begin arguing with me asking "What about all the other guests that really do want to view them, and are not leaking ideas to to the KO companies?" remember that they can register an account and have it confirmed by a moderator/admin very easily.

Please try not to overreact if you disagree with me, I am trying to redeem myself from my stupid mistakes on this forum by suggesting things and helping out. This is a simple suggestion that can be somewhat helpful. I do not mind if you disagree, I understand that everybody has different opinions.

That's not a bad idea at all. It would limit the number of KO companies taking ideas from this site. Remember though, if needs be they may make their own account, and there's no way we could tell.

What if someone from a KO company comes to register and become a member? Hmm... let's add a question "Are you from a KO company?" at the registration.

Thats like putting this question on the US security clearance form (This question is really on the exam).

"Have you or a member of your family ever been involved in a plot to overthrow the United Stated Government"

I wonder if anyone has said yes.

This forum is relatively open and I'd like it to stay that way. You're not going to solve anything by locking up the forum, people interested in stealing ideas will find a way around it. If you don't want it at risk of being stolen, don't place it on the internet.

I have been thinking alot about this!
I came up with an idea of a new secret private forum, where to become a member you have to be invited by another member.

The name of the board would be secret too, something like "bobbies bix" (lock stock? ;) ), or something.. so people from outside have no chance of finding it.

what do you think? do you think such forum would kill TP?

Maybe if only a part of the fourm was member only, such as the "new puzzle" section.

Maybe we should do a private Mechanism section, so the KO's don't find out, but make the new puzzles section private would kill the forum

:D Greg :D

There's already the DMB, isn't that enough?

Although I do hate that company's steal from this site if the rules you guy's are proposing would have most likely prevented me from joining in the first place.Further more what if people who wanted to join didn't have an invite and couldn't join.I think i t might be a good to lock the new puzzles thread to non-members but still let them know there is one and let the admins decide on who can and can't join like they do now.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is the DMP

Regarding privacy, I think the ko companies would still get the images if they wanted them and it would also restrict the strong anti ko sentiment of this forum from spreading as well as restrict the growth of cubing as a hobby.

I have no idea what that DMP is. The DMB, however, is a long standing conspiracy theory on the forum.

Unfortunately, Dave has broken the first and second rule of the DMB, and has thus been "dealt with" accordingly.

The "New Puzzles" section was the whole reason why I got into cubing. Without it, I certainly would not be here.
If you think about it, the reason why to be more private is so that ideas aren't stolen. In other words, the glory goes to the inventor. But if you hide those ideas, there really is no glory to go to the inventor, plus it wouldn't make it harder for a KO company to steal ideas anyway. Plus, there are several members here who have businesses set up. Many have Shapeways shops. That means KO companies can still get the puzzles.
I recognize most members here based on their personalities and their approaches on puzzles. If I wasn't a member, I wouldn't learn personalities unless I studied posts of someone one by one (as if...). I would only recognize members for what they've made. However, if I couldn't see what they've made, I'd just see 1,804 people who like puzzles.

Long story short, how can you respect a community of inventors and artists who hide what they're proud of?
