I was watchng that. If it had stayed low enough (and shipping was less to the US) I would have bought it and a tile set from mefferts. Instead, I just ordered me a tiled minx and a skewb ultimate from mefferts. Funny auction though!

Hi Stefan,
StefanPochmann wrote: Now something different: Are these cubes really that bad? http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... 5959491034
These are Ideal/Arxon cubes, just a different package from the clear cylinder. Elsewhere I have rated them. Ones with the square "Rubik's CUBE" stickers have arches, the rest don't. Most without arches are fine if you don't mind popping. They all have screws, not rivets.
The only one I have objection to is the "Made in Tawian" version because some of the first ones used copies of the original molds from Hungary which weren't very good. The ones made in Hungary, Hong Kong and England have very good plastic, the same plastic as the Hungarian made "Rubik's Studio" cubes.

too bad you can't see who asked the question. it does seem a bit odd that a potential buyer would tell a seller how rare the item is. if it was just an honest observer, what would be the motivation? all that said and done, not sure if this is illegal in any way.

There are plenty of tactics that aren't illegal that border on the unethical. If I was interested in getting the best possible price for an item regardless of what others thought of me, heck I'd be doing the same thing. But I like trying to keep a good online reputation.

I am soooo sick of eBay.
I gave up searching eBay for Lent, and guess what! Life is better! I have rediscovered some favorite pastimes.
You guys can have it. No more competition from me.

This must be the funniest question I've seen. Goes like "Dude, will you give me your MIB stickered deluxe cube for $8 as buy-it-now?"...
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5963229572
Oh, the joy of doing things together. In case you didn't notice, there were five of these spread over half an hour. It was the same people bidding (or trying to) together again and again, often of course in the last seconds. In the above auction, three of us managed to put the last bids in the exact same second, 4 seconds before the end.
I didn't win any, but it was still a heartwarming experience. I mean it! Congrats to the winners! If any of you use them for speedsolving, I'd like to know how you like them. Ton has them in his "not recommended" list but hey, they're deluxes! Also, the sticker says "assembled in Korea". Does that mean the pieces were maybe produced elsewhere? Anyway, I'm not trying to make anyone feel bad. I'd guess/hope they're good cubes, otherwise I wouldn't have bid myself. I'm just curious...

Another one I just found:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... 5961157201
Includes a Pyramix and three nice old Megaminx's.
Yes, Pyramix. No 'n'. This one:
http://www.twistypuzzles.com/cgi-bin/pu ... i?pid=1321
But with the case and instruction booklet that shows the same wrong spelling.
The Megaminx's have nice cubic boxes, apparently with triangles cut out on the bottom and added on top so that they can "stand on a corner". And they have white centers without that usual picture of that guy.
It's also funny to read

If you ever see something you wanted that ended with no bids, my advice is to ask the seller if they want to sell it privately. I got the K-ball display by doing this.
Anyone want a MIB K-ball?

Hey Doug,
For what it's worth, I've never seen a regular stickered cube with the logo on any color other than white. If the spindle is the same as the run of the mill on-white logo cubes, then it is probably genuine. Perhaps someone deliberately put some yellow stickers though the white sticker printing process, like the accidental mint error...

That last is amazing!

Unbelievable. Unbelievable! People pay $75,000 for a single coin just because it contains an error? Wow!
You say "deliberate". How do you know? And who did it? The page doesn't mention anything...
Did you notice how many of them went to Tommy Bolack? Maybe he's the idiot who did it and now he's trying to cover this up?

Hi Stefan,
If you found a Mercedes engine in a VW Beetle would you imagine it was accidental? Even a Porsche engine in a VW Beetle wouldn't be accidental even though they are the same company.
Nobody, but nobody, is going to accidently put the face of a quarter on Sacagewea dollar. I don't think it could happen accidentally. If it had been an accident there would probably have been a run of thousands of them before the error was caught, and they would have all been dealt with carefully.
I can't go into detail here, but take a look at the checks and balances that are in place at a US mint.
They are well known; see the first 4 paragraphs, for example, on this page:
http://www.coinsite.com/content/Articles/MintErrors.asp
What's to cover up? If he had made them he could have simply kept them, and it wouldn't have cost him so much money. If he had them made he could have had them delivered.
Cheers!
David J

The fact that the head and tail are from different coins is a big tipoff, considering how perfectly the coins were struck. The head and tail of a coin are struck together, so the odds of two different denominations being created at once are not likely since the entire coin batch would likely be rejected.

Jus did a quick name search...
http://www.zyworld.com/coinpurse/Articles88.htm
"A cattle rancher and oil producer named Tommy Bolack bought
the first two tailed quarter found for $80,000"
So its a different idiot

Actually the 4th paragraph works *against* the deliberate act theory. Maybe most of the bad coins were just found and destroyed, but some made it through. Or as mentioned there, all could've been detected but then some sold by employees. That selling would be deliberate, but not the creation itself. I doubt your "they would have all been dealt with carefully".

The reason it couldn't have happened by accident is because the quarter die had to be specifically altered to fit in a *different* machine setup. It had to have been done by someone who knew their way *around* security and procedure. Nowadays, unless someone knows how to bypass security, *all of that type* of mint errors are caught and destroyed.

I have seen many Ivory (babylon) towers over the years. However, I have never seen the ones that not only have the balls with different shades, but the outer plastic is colored too and not all white.

Hi Michael,
Not full of baloney.
Before Ideal sold them and named them (beginning in 1980) Logical Games had the rights in the USA and Pentangle had the rights in England. The Pentangle cubes were made before the 1980 Ideal cubes, and before they were called "Rubik's Cubes."

Looks to me like a cheap clone cube! There were quite a few bidders as well - I guess as the price goes up, more people believe the item is more rare.. no other explanation really!
Also, I just sold a fused puzzle for $68
