In the Puzzle of the Year 2009 there have been posts saying "Post all of this year's puzzles" and replies saying "That would be too time-consuming". So I have decided to take that role.

I am letting the TwistyPuzzles community know that I have chosen and already am up to date on this project. Obviously I it'd be too time consuming to keep editing this post so I'm keeping saving it on Notepad instead. I'm keeping track of date, username, puzzle's name assigned by maker, URL to the post on this site.

For example, the first entry is:
Jan 1- Justin's 4x4x4 Rhombic Triacontahedron: http://www.twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=15&p=193603#p193603

Let me know if I should do anything else before there are too many puzzles to update.

A very good idea, it would be nice to know the shear amount of puzzles that re produced by the forum members.
As a tip, try to make all the links to the actual start post, not a reply, it makes more sense ;)

Nice idea, thanks for taking the initiative.

One important suggestion would be to set up your database with the same/consistent structure/format and fields as the TP museum, so that they can easily be merged and/or integrated at a later date without any conflicts, gaps, duplications or redundancies...

Yep.

I don't believe prices are going to be apparent, but the mechanism may be relevant to certain puzzles. I've got the rest of the information collected though.

Also I don't know if I should keep track of remakes of existing puzzles, such as TomZ's Holey Octahedron V2. This is because in order to qualify for puzzle of the year, wouldn't it have to be the original puzzle?

I believe your right, it has to be the original puzzle. If I were you though, I'd still keep track of the remakes so you can have a list at the end of the year of EVERY puzzle made throughout the year.
That could be overly time-consuming though, so it's your choice.

Also, is the gigaminx v1 different than v2, v1.5, etc.?

I strongly suggest using excel or another spreadsheet software.

This brings up another dilema. I'll keep track of which puzzles are mods, builds, remakes of existing ones, etc. This will make it easier to sort them as well as track exactly how much of which kind of new puzzle they are.

I will not track additions to existing puzzles unless the mechanism is changed.

What about mass produced puzzles?

Or just use separate spreadsheets.

I have 3 spreadsheets started. Builds (built from scratch), Mods (changing existing puzzle(s)), and Remakes. If it appears in remakes, it also appears in its appropriate category (mod or build)

This makes it easier, and seeing how many puzzles I already have listed, it's bound to work.
