I realize that shipping was $50.00, but I factored that into my bid. I also thought about how troublesome it would be to ship 50 cubes in their clamshell packaging, and I thought about what it would cost to ship and figured it was reasonable.

I also bought a sealed Rubik's Cube... I never heard of one where the 3x3 is sealed, then put in the box and sealed again. Does anyone know about these, I would appreciate the info!

The original Ten Billion Barrel was a ball/plunger type puzzle produced by Nintendo in 1980. The company discontinued it when they started producing video games. I also have a set of Hanafuda Cards, which I redeemed from Club Nintendo for 800 club points. Nintendo started out in the late 1800s as a maker of traditional Japanese Hanafuda playing cards. I'll also be recieving a genuine liscensed Mario hat this fall, a reward for attaining Platinum status, and now this awesome reproduction from Club Ninteno. Still though, you gotta admit, the hot stuff gamers get in Japan is way cooler than what US/Europe get! Being both a die-hard Mario/Nintendo Fanboy as well as a puzzle fanatic, I just couldn't pass this one up

I'm very much aware of that. I appologize for posting something that isn't news to some, but I've never been able to post anything I won before. I think the star shape looks cooler and easier to grip, anyhow. I collect Nintendo games/collectibles and I also collect puzzles; I never owned the original barrel, so it is a win-win situation for me. Also, I'm one of those types who buy stuff to play with them, not to sit on a shelf unopened for years collecting dust, though I do usually keep the boxes they come in...

I just meant that the piece you quoted about it being from the 1980's doesn't directly apply to your puzzle, enjoy your puzzle, I like it very much also I only have the original barrel but would love a star barrel as well.

I have been informed by several eBay members that they tried, and were unable to bid on this and several of my other auctions that ended Thursday night. Apparently eBay was performing system maintenance during the time my auctions were ending and that sometimes prevents bids from being placed. For those who sell on eBay, you may want to take this into consideration and avoid having your auctions end on Thursdays. I know I am.

I know what you mean, I recently (as of almost a year) started cubing and was wish I was into it when I could have gotten a dogic. they seem to me to be one of the coolest twisty puzzles around.

The high price was mainly the result of two bidders, c***k and o***e, warring it out, all during the last four minutes of the auction.

Maybe I should reassemble mine and either sell it on ebay or trade it for something reeeeaally premium, like a Helicopter Cube I ordered a 12-color Dogic on Mefferts when I first got into twistypuzzles in 2007. I had visited this forum (before my membership was ever approved) and everyone was saying it's the most awesome puzzle. Well, Dogic never really "wowed" me, and I was solving it one day when I dropped it and pieces popped out of it. Trying to reassemble it was a pain, as every time I tried to add a piece in something else would pop out of it, so out of frustration, I collected all of the little pieces and stuffed them in a little container with the half-dismantled Dogic, and it's been sitting inside that tiny plastic bin for over two years. Since then, I've gained a lot of valuable experience dismantling and reassembling puzzles, so it shouldn't be as hard now. My blunder was unscrewing one of the axes and then trying to stack the parts back up while the Dogic teetered on one corner supported by a round jar. Hindsight tells me that unscrewing and removing the spindle in order that all the parts will fit nicely in place, is just about the most ignorant way try and attempt to reassemble a complex puzzle, that I have ever heard I pray that none of the tiny pieces are missing, because someday when the time is right, I might want to want to trade that sucker in for something extra special

I just talked by phone with this seller "rubiks_cube10". He told me his real name and asked whether I can help with issuing a patent (I can't). He is neither a professional seller nor from the puzzles domain, but in the last 4 months he created a prototype of a new magnet based puzzle, and wanted to start to see how he may sell it on ebay. So he tried to create ebay listings for testing. He didn't expect anyone to bid, since these are just pictures, without any description. (Well, like others here, I do not care about the description too much when I see such pictures, and thought to bid, but didn't do this, since such custom puzzles is not my league yet; and I was quite surprised how low they ended.) We chatted a bit and I told about the trust on ebay and about the PayPal refund protection. He said, he will return money.

I can guess how the winners feel now...

How about really really ticked off! Not because of not getting a puzzle, but because of a reply saying that he told me not to pay-the day after I already had. When I asked for a refund, I got a reply saying he said not to pay. But no refund. As a matter of fact, that is the same message he sent me 3 times and still no refund. So English isn't his first language, I get that. But how hard is it to put through a refund at the same time he sent out that message. Con artist if you want my two cents worth. I could be wrong, so migo, if you know this guy, do me a favor and tell him to get his act together!

Buyer beware and all that I know. Now, my question is, how long should i give him to refund my money before I open a dispute, and report him to eBay as a fraudulent seller. Because I am seriously thinking about it right now.

You are already engaged in a dispute with the seller, so you should open a dispute case now. Describe your case as graciously as possible, make a good faith effort to resolve the dispute through eBay's dispute-resolution process. A faithful seller has no reason to be offended if you open a dispute case as long as you try to resolve it in good faith. The dispute-handling process records all communication between buyer and seller and gives you every opportunity to reach a good-faith solution. You don't need to escalate the case for judgment unless the seller continues to be uncooperative.

Dispute-resolution is just a part of the buyer-seller process. I've been involved in many disputes, but I always try to handle myself in good-faith and offer the seller an opportunity to save face. Most cases have been resolved amicably. In the two instances where I escalated the case, it was decided in my favor.

edit: An additional reason to open a dispute is to protect other buyers. A quick check of this seller's history reveals an artificially-created history of 3 sales to a single shill-buyer and 3 trivial purchases to get their feedback score up. Taylor is right: the seller's history is not trustworthy.

I agree that opening a dispute in this situation is a fully logical thing, and a honest seller should not be offended by this. You may always close the dispute when it is resolved. Or you may give him 20 hours from now. I just sent him an appropriate email saying all I think about not returning money after I spent my time explaining about the puzzle community and how PayPal works in his native language.

I feared this is a scam right after the auctions, and I even wrote to Geert about this . But then this seller contacted me by phone after my request to talk, and I had a feeling he just didn't understand he created the real ebay listings, and all he wanted is to understand how it works. I don't have anything to add, except that I always prefer to believe to people even if all facts are currently against them, I want to hear another side first, before I judge. So I am personally waiting 1-2 days before reporting him to ebay. At least the part about his magnet-based puzzle is not false, I saw the video and the pictures.

This is a very weird situation. I talked again with this seller twice by phone. He is only near internet when he returns from work, and his English is really bad. The seller gave me his paypal password and asked to do everything needed, since he is quite lost. Well, I never had a seller account in PayPal, but the interface seems to be pretty symmetric to the buyer's interface. I started with the Roxanne's (non-escalated) dispute and issued full refund. Then I moved to the second case (that was escalated yesterday) and PayPal did not let me issue full refund, possibly because the seller's balance is currently zero. The seller told me he will add funds. So I hope this will be solved. Any expert who knows how this is possible is free to contact me by PM (there is a hold on the disputed funds, so how is this case different, why not just reverse the payment, possibly this has something to do with the fees).

It took me some time to compose this message, because I am in a partial shock from this entire situation. It is so good I am not a seller and will possibly never be, my nerves are not up to this. I am pretty bad in these situations, I tend to believe to people more than an average (and it seems not without a reason; hey, this seller trusted me too by giving me the password). I even don't leave negative or neutral feedbacks to sellers, since I know I will feel bad, I don't know all actual details. But sometimes I start disputes thanks to PayPal, when all else fails. And finally, I hope you will not kill the messenger.
