Someone who's set their profile so they don't show up on the Who's Online menu.

Why would someone want to be hidden? It is not like you are bidding on something? Can someone name a good reason because I can't think of one. Of course, I am a little tired at the moment. Can a hidden user post a message?

Hidden users can post messages and everyone else can see them. Hidden only applies to Who's Online.

I personally don't see any reason for us to use it, but there must be numerous reasons, or the forum developers wouldn't have bothered to include it as an option. By the same token, I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be an option either. If someone wants to be annonymous, they should be able to.
Personally, I find it very interesting to see who's online at the same time I am. It's making me think about adding a Chat feature!

a chat feature would be cool. So far there has only been one or two registered users on at the same times I have been. Hopefully that will grow.

Having been on large forums with hundreds of people, a "hidden" option is appealing to people who perhaps post a lot, but don't want to be deluged with private messages or people wanting them to join a chat or even online "stalkers." I know it seems odd since you can't exactly follow someone online physically, but there are personal reasons (often for females) for being "hidden."

I never had really thought of that. I have been to too many other forums. This is such a small group on a specific topic (currently and growing fast) that I didn't see a reason to be hidden. This wasn't a feature on the twistymegasite.

Don't worry, I get that all the time. Believe me, I'm used to it!
I was damn sure my son's name didn't carry the same gender ambiguity. It would be a stretch to assume someone called Tyson is a girl!
Anyway, I've done a little research about the chat thing, and it will indeed eat bandwidth, but probably not too much for such a small pool of users. I've found a simple script that seems to work, but I'm insisting on customizing it quite a bit before releasing it cause it looks like crap.
