I know the basics....pinwheel, crane, flowers, etc. There are some things out there that blow my mind! I usually use my bills that come in the mail for these projects.......which explains a lot of other things.

Before there was cube, there was origami (at least for me). I can follow the instructions pretty well, but I have not created any of my own designs ... yet. If you already have a decent knowledge of Origami, you should definitely get Robert J. Lang's Origami Design Secrets. It explains how origami works, and is a very interesting read. Also, if you understand how to read straight crease patterns, then check out this flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/jon_tucker/ LOT of really neat stuff there. I'm planning on deconstructing the Attack of the Kraken

I made some figures by origami when I was so young. In Japan, we are playing by origami at preschool and home. Here is a sample site. http://www.origami.ne.jp/origami-0.html(Sorry, written by Japanese) And similarly, we made paper planes.

I used to have a Flickr account with a bunch of polyhedra I made on it, but I forgot the name. I'll try to find it. . .
Well, here's something I made this week. (attachment)

And I used to be huge into origami, I've made enough things to write my own book, but I'm just not that... motivated to do so. But anyway, I love the stuff.

Here are some of the things I've made: http://twistypuzzles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7866do you have the instructions for the "great icosahedron" in the middle? its the black one. This is a Great Icoasahedron: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/GreatIcosahedron.htmlIt so happens that the blue object around two to the left of the black one you mentioned is this particular shape. It's actually cut out of paper nets with tabs (not folded) and one of the few times I've actually used a net shape. The black one in the center I like to refer to as an "inverted icosahedron" but it's possible there's a more correct name for it. In any case, I do have the folding instructions for it. It's actually from Tomoko Fuse's "Unit Origami" - a collection of many of her popular shapes from other books published in Asia. It's easily available in many bookstores in the US and online. Since it's just one small pattern, I wouldn't mind scanning the image for you. However, I'm in my college apartment right now so you'll probably have to wait a week or so for me to head back home so I can get the book. You may have luck finding it online though so it wouldn't hurt to search in the meantime.

I always thought of it as more of an icosahedron but "squashed dodecahedron" seems to make a lot of sense too. The dodecahedron and icosahedron are duals after all.

Well in that shape it is still technically more of a dodecahedron I think. It has 20 vertices (ignoring the ones on the "faces") and 12 face-like things. It actually has 32 vertices and 60 faces though so perhaps there is a better name still for it.
