Many of the posts on the building forum are a diary of progress. I agree with what you say. In the New Puzzles forum, your completed puzzle can be announced with pictures & vids of the final product, then link back to the progress thread in the puzzle building forum. I think this is the cleanest approach to take.

I like the board changes a lot. I skim the announcements, general puzzle topics, collecting and marketplace, read everything in new puzzles and building/modding, and pretty much ignore the solving, site comments and off-topics.
I can't believe how much traffic this site has been getting lately.

I think this is the cleanest approach to take. This would have been my general take on the issue as well. If I introduce a new puzzle, the general announcement would be on the New Puzzle forum and a separate topic started in building that answers questions in depth and discusses the build. I believe I may have suggested this sort of scheme when the board underwent its first split, segregating all actual new puzzle related stuff to the "building" section. I thought that maybe new puzzle introductions would be appropriate in the general section with a link to the puzzle building section for detailed discussion. Of course that point has been for the most part settled with the board layout the way it is now.

Yep, I'm working on it. I've written the code to search and replace the HTML codes (which won't work in the current version of phpBB forum) with BBCodes (which will). It worked great for <BR> tags (which came from the old network54 forum), but hasn't worked at all with <IMG> and <A HREF...> tags. I have posted a message on the phpbb.com forums asking for help with this and was pointed at a plug in which supposedly will fix the problem... although I have yet to get this fix to work. The fix needs a fix.
I'll let you know when I get it working.
So is the great thread migration complete now? Or just the puzzle building forum?

Sandy I can't speak for the other guys, but I'm still working on the general forum. That one will take a while to complete, with over 100 pages.

It's coming up on a month since the tread migration started. It's tedious and thankless, but I would like to get it done. Will the three of you give me an update on what you've completed, what is left, what you're working on now and where you're at on it? Post here or PM myself and the other two Temp Mods.

Okay, I guess we can call that "done". Thanks for your help, Alonso, merlintocs and TomZ!
If there is anyone willing to take on the insane job of trying to find and move some or all of the puzzle collecting threads from General into Puzzle Collecting, PM me.

I got it working, so I'm letting you know! 1600 threads with <A HREF> tags, 700 threads with IMG tags, 7000 threads with <P> tags, and some 150 oddball posts have been converted to BBCodes. I stayed up until 4am! There are thousands of posts, and I'm sure I didn't get them all, but I am interested in completing this cleanup once and for all. If anyone finds any old posts that seem poorly formatted or contain HTML tags, please let me know. I have yet to solve the 1969 thread dates. Sandy
