OK, it's a duplicate thread I know, but I figured I could get away with it for such a monsterous puzzle Most people are already aware of the concept--an edge-turning, deep-cut, cube-puzzle--but I have taken the liberty of renaming it to align with my two earlier puzzles "Toru" and "Rua", both of which were necessary testbeds for this puzzle. And what a puzzle at that: 209 pieces 44 screws 24 washers 6 springs I think the pictures pretty much speak for themself, and if not the video certainly does. Cheers! Oh, also, my creative marketing plan will be up soon too, so that enough copies will be available. Watch this space...

Well, this is astonishingly beautiful. I also love to see the jumblable move in action now in the video.
This is really a masterpiece. Actually, the puzzle is slightly larger than I expected it to be. Thanks a lot for making this, sharing it and even considering to make more samples.

It is absolutely stunning to bring such a complex puzzle brought to life. Fantastically done!

My congratulations! Looks ideally, without any the slightest defect. Need 209 pieces to make a puzzle with 24 visible pieces!!! Mechanism is amazing! Good job!

There have been some amazing puzzles on here recently (not least some of your other stuff!). It can be very difficult to think of something meaningful to say that expresses the amazement I feel.
This one takes the biscuit. So many things about it are so breathtaking. The half turning edge-turns are great enough as a puzzle, but the plane-blocking partial turns that allow further movement and muddling and shape changing...... The mech.... The puzzle.... The ideas.... The execution...

I can't believe... Quote: ...enough copies will be available It might seem a trivial point to make but I love the way the corner radii of the stickers and the pieces relate, giving a uniform white edge.

Congratulations on producing another fabulous puzzle!
All those hidden mech pieces moving under the hood - incredible.
Btw, I like the way you give it an affectionate pat at the end of the vid.

The little chop is difficult enough without it being shape changing, after doing 2 faces you have to do the rest with pure algorithms.
Can anyone tell me whether it would be easier or harder with the shape changing?

Is it possible to use jumbling to swap the parity of this puzzle? Normally it can do arbitrary 3-cycles, but not swap just two pieces.

I have a "24-Cube"(magnetic version) and I had play it for a while. it's really hard to understand the mechanism. I wonder if this is true that this puzzle has 6 rotation planes in cube state, and will be bondaged somewhere while not in cube state??? anyway, I want to express my respects, you are really good in puzzle building. thanks for sharing "Rua tekau ma-wha"! -John Lin from Kaohsiung Taiwan The real models are always the best approach to Shapes, Space, and Symmetry.

Wow!
Is the shape-changing ability simply a side-effect of the mechanism required for the Little Chop, or is it something you designed explicitly?

A bunch of people wrote: Nice things! Yaay! It's a hit I don't mind saying that I'm really pleased that it is, as this puzzle represents a rather huge amount of figuring and tinkering to produce a working design--those that have tried at some point to design this puzzle know what I'm talking about! Which makes me think that this: kastellorizo wrote: ... "Patendable-worthy" if you asked me. is actually quite a reasonable sentiment. Maybe I will try; any advice on how to file one? Then again, I don't have much / any spare funds floating around either... Anyway, moving along, the next thing is SilverPotato wrote: You beat me to it I was in the middle of making one of these. And I planned on calling it the Dino-Copter. Don't stop! I promise you I was not the first person to work on this puzzle, just the first to finish it Besides, it's almost impossible to appreciate the technical difficulty of the 24-cube without trying to design it yourself! On that note though, I did get some help with this design--how terrible for not giving props where they are due! So, a HUGE thanks to Adam (puzzlemaster42) for pointing out the rather severe flaws in the initial design--it would have been a rather costly discovery on my own... Cheers!

I'm very much inclined to agree, especially with modern manufactuing / distribuiton practices, a patent seems to me a worthless item these days unless you have very deep pockets to enforce it, which in turn would only come with a manjor consumer or professional item, as opposed to small item like a puzzle. But, I've been wrong about many things in the past

True, it all depends on how a patent is planned to be used. There are indeed many parameters to make such a big and important decision. If you do though, you must know that in some countries you have a grace period once it has become public (that is, one year for USA and/or Australia), while some other countries do not. Of course, there are other ways to go around all those issues, but they can be time and money (i.e. lawyers) consuming. I'll give you an example of my own thoughts with some recent designs: Initially, I was planning to patent the Iris Diamond, but then decided to do it with the Cubedron, because there is much more interest in it. Plus it is easier to build, when compared to the Iris' outrageous stringining techniques. Patending both, *and* in various countries, would cost a fortune. So for all the rest, a copyright would do some good justice. Pantazis

A patent isn't really necessary here unless you would seriously plan worldwide decent scale distribution. The "hardcore puzzle market" is very small and specialised and I don't think there would be much interest outside of it for this puzzle. People already have the Rubik's Cube. This puzzle also having so many parts would be relatively expensive for a company with the equipment to produce and perhaps a less lucrative investment? I don't know, I'm just musing. As you say also it may be a worthless item - imagine if having spent money protecting your idea and at last releasing it, a chinese knockoff appears? Unthinkably devastating Patents are a pain and an expense. Oh and for future reference it's "patenting" Pantazis

Bounb wrote: Oh and for future reference it's "patenting" Pantazis LOL fair enough, I needed that correction. This actually somewhat reveals that I am still not used to the differences between "nt" and "nd". You see, the Greek alphabet, does not have an equivalent for the English "d". The fourth letter of the Greek alphabet, i.e. Delta, is pronounced as "th" in the word "then". Therefore, me and many others who use Greek as their first language cannot really see the difference between "nd" and "nt". If you called me Pandazis instead of Pantazis, it wouldn't make any difference, at least not to me. And after this small explanation, back to the topic. Indeed, a patent costs too much and may seem unecessary. But a mechanism could also be used for other reasons, not just for a puzzle (coding, engineering). Now you may ask, which reasons? Well, there can never be a direct answer for this. Just look at some mathematical theories which initially were done just for the sake of knowledge, yet later were used for significant real life applications. Note that, I am not insisting in the.drizzle patenting this mechanism. I am just (still) in awe with this mechanism and its elementary nature and value! Even bandaging two "Rua tekau ma-wha"s, will not seem like a bandage puzzle. If you think about it, it's amazing! Pantazis

Really excellent work. Do you think after making the Rua toru and the 24 cube now you can go back and finish the tetrahedron shaped megaminx again really awesome work.

Excellent job, drizzle!
The shape changing still puzzles me in the same way that the Rua shape changing does, but still an incredible puzzle. Also looks like it turns pretty good for such complex internals.
Too bad my only hope for using one is if someone around here build one (yea, right)
