anyone have one? i'd like to see what the opposite side looks like... is it identical?

The other side is identical. You can look at one by downloading the puzzler software at http://www.mud.ca You can't play with it until you register, but you can view the puzzles. fisher 2 is under the square one category with the other bandaged cubes

Hoping to start building this baby next week.

This was made by Greg Stevens around 1994, and he calls it an "Off-Center Cube". I got one back then, and had a hard time finding an algorithm. I'd say this is about as tough as a Square-1.

Actually, I think it's probably tougher. Square-1 has 340 possible shapes for the puzzle to take on. If I worked out the math correctly, this one has something like 880, assuming the puzzle is oriented around one of the 2x2 pieces. I tried coming up with a solution to this one some time ago and put it on hold when I took some classes last term. I think it's about time I started up again. L8r.

I ended up with 2 usable move sequences that both switched and/or flipped few pieces. After restoring the larger corner pieces, I could always solve the rest with these two, rather long, sequences.
