Finally got my UFO...
Pretty cool, doesnt seem stiff at all, just a real pain to turn on the equator.
Not what i expected... its great and all..
But i expected the little round things to turn, seems they are just there, and have no function at all.
Overall... its pretty cool.
How might i convert this into a cheese?
I bought an extra for that purpose

perhaps i could build it up with milliput? (molds would not be needed)
Is milliput able to be painted?
anyone know where i can get some Online?

How much milliput would I need for the buildup of 12 UFO parts ( about 1 inch buildup each)

If you need large quantities might I suggest Magic Sculp? I recently received an order I placed and it's supposed to be very comparable to Milliput but at a much more reasonable price. I haven't actually tried to make anything with it yet, but that will be soon.

As for the company I ordered it from, I'd rather soon forget the name of it as they took well over a month to get me this stuff without so much as a notice of the delay.

The UFO is sized in @ a diameter of a little over 3 inches.
The amount of extension would have to be about 1 inch,
so the total area of the extension, for EACH piece would be less than: 1.18 Cubic inches, because

pi * R^2 = 7.065 sq. in whole side
7.065 / 6 (6 slices) = 1.1775 sq. in 1 slice (1 side)
1.1775 * 1 (height of extension) = 1.1775 ( 1.18)/

So, the total amount of milliput (or magic sculpt) needed would be: 1.18 6 2 = 14.16 Cubic Inches

Tyler, you could go broke making these with Milliput. I would recommend that you buy 5 pounds of Magic Sculpt and see what you can do. They have a web site where you can order it.

To get a precision surface, you need a design that has nice flat surfaces that you can sand.

Ton is right, it will be heavier than most puzzles, but who cares? You get a nice puzzles in an uncommon shape.

Can you disassemble the UFO?

is MAGIC SCULPT easy to work with like milliput?
i cant dissasemble it yet... but i WILL need to.

Is magic sculpt strong enough to hold up to regular cubing?

It is easy to work with. Less messy than Milliput.

5 lbs is $32 with shipping. You would use, maybe 6-8 ounces.

To mix the two parts together, you roll it between your hands and fold it and roll it for about 5 minutes. This is a SHOULDER intensive activity.

It is just about as nice for sanding as Milliput. I believe that it will stand up to speed cubing, although I must admit I'm not sure what speed cubing is all about. If you rough up the plastic surface with sandpaper and wash the parts with soap and water and dry them well before you apply the epoxy, it will hold really well.

You need a really durable paint, and model paints from the hobby shop just don't seem to cut it, especially for puzzles you want to handle a lot. I use automotive touch up paint from an auto supply store.

if i just sand down the top of the UFO and cut off all the bumps, and put on the magic sculp (already mixed, of course) will it bind? or will i need glue.

I would use the square 1 corners to make a build up. Using only milliput makes it very heavy.

Epoxy putty IS glue. It is hard to believe, but this stuff will stick like glue to anything. They use it for fixing leaky pipes, and I've heard of it being used to fix leaky boats. You have to be sure you wash it off of your hands AND wash it out of your sink! It will harden under water, so any leftovers is better in the trash than down the drain.

I think my Magic Sculpt arrived within a week, maybe two. Somebody else said theirs took a long time.

So im guessing i handle this with my hands with no worries?

The label refers to the possibility of irritation. I don't know how you could handle it with gloves on. My hands did not experience any irritation, just dryness from scrubbing the stuff off.
