Hello guys,

i was browsing through my collection of photos and invented good names for some nameless mods. Attached are some pictures of a mod simple and beautiful (IMHO) at the same time.
Has this mod ever been done before?
If yes, who did it and what is its name?
If no, any suggestions for the name it should bear?

Andreas

I'd suggest Sigma-Cube if it's not already taken. For some reason the shape reminds me of a lower case sigma...

And the winner is ... Aleksey and his suggestion "Spiral Edges Cube".
Thanks for the other contributions.

Hi Andreas,

I found this modification in Cubic Circular 3/4 page 11 (year 1982):
http://www.geocities.com/jaapsch/puzzles/cubic3.htm

Singmaster called this group of puzzles chimerical cubes:

"I have seen a number of chimerical cubes (C1-9). The simplest are obtained by taking one, two or three columns from an octagonal prism and putting them into an ordinary cube. See below for an example. Actually, I have just realised that one need net make them parallel and a rather odd shape is obtained with three orthogonal nonintersecting columns, as shown below."

Hhrrmm...
seems like I was to fast in considerung the topic closed. According to your post "Chimerical Cube" is just a name for the whole group of puzzles and no name is given to the variant itself. So I can stay with "Spiral Edges Cube" right?

With all due respect to David Singmaster, calling this cube something like C1-9 (C3 in this case, I presume) would be far inferior to a real name. I don't think David's point was to name the individuals in the group, merely to label them for potential later reference.

"Spiral Edges Cube" gets my vote.
