Is there a certain type of spray paint you would recommend for modded puzzles? Does any generic brand work or should I use something that is intended for modelling purposes. Are there any techniques you guys use as well to get a really nice finish on the parts?

I've used paint on some of my handmade puzzles and honestly I don't recommend using it at all. It's best to just spend time polishing the pieces to shine instead. It makes the puzzle function better as I've found paint to often stick the puzzle together when you let it sit for some time. If you absolutely must use paint though I'd recommend spray paint and masking tape to protect the mechanism when you apply the coats.

I have a puzzle that was spray-painted black. The paint is now flaking off which makes a mess. The paint likes to stick to the stickers and it really looked rather poor until I carefully removed all of the flaking paint. Now the puzzle looks and feels great again :-)

I also use spray paint as there is no way for me to know how to get things to a black shine after I am done modding my puzzles.

It might be an idea Ben for a short how to?

The annoying bit is that not all materials are as obtainable in different countries. I spent a good deal of time before I finally found a store that sold black milliput without costing me an arm and a leg for one package :|

I use black gloss spray paint intended for use on cars, as long as you mask up the internal parts and let it dry properly before applying stickers you should have no problem, I've used it on most of my puzzles and had no problems
