Not sure how people feel about posting works in progress in this thread? Let me know if I'm jumping the gun, or if there is another thread for this - but I do have this puzzle completed, and ready to be shipped off to shapeways.

At any rate - this is my newest puzzle - well really it's just a fancy shapemod if you want to get technical. I call it the companion dodecahedron - because it is similar looking to the companion cube in Portal. I think I may sticker it with little hearts on the faces...

I made it by extending the spherical cuts out past the edge of the puzzle. Pretty simple really, but very similar to grigr's bubble minx. I've also got a gigaminx version in the works that looks really cool - Still putting all the finishing touches on that one. Once I get it printed and stickered, I'll update this thread.

Updated this post with my gigaminx version - work in progress, but here is the basic shape minus any filtets, etc... This thing will look really cool if it works!

"Completed" in the sense of designed isn't our definition for New Puzzles, that requires a finished product (with stickers!). Keep in mind many puzzles look fine in CAD but require adjustments before they are complete.
I've moved this to Puzzle Building and look forward to progress pictures and then a new post in New Puzzles when it is done.

Dave :)

Hi,

The puzzle ideas looks really nice!
I like the Megaminx version better. It looks more clear to me.

Olivér

PS.: you know, in any sticker issues, I can help you! ;)

Thanks - Yes I'll be contacting you before too long once I get it prototyped... And yeah, the gigaminx is sort of strange how the corners hide the pieces underneath - but I like that it's confusing! :)

Nothing too crazy really:

In fact - I discovered it quite by accident - I kept making this mistake in experimenting with other designs, and realized I could use it to make something new... The spherical cuts just extend beyond the outside of the solid shape a little bit. The result is bits that have to be deleted, but in this case they do not affect the puzzle (the parts right in the middle on the outside).

Puzzle building gurus - is there a term for this technique?
