If you are using solidworks,
File - Save As - Name it whatever you want, and change the file type to .stl

It will show you the number of polygons and if its less than 1000000 you can print it in one go.

What if I use Autodesk Inventor? I'd rather not have to buy a $20 program to convert my designs.

Well I have Inventor 2013 Professional at work, and to get an stl file just go "Export -> CAD Format" and select "STL Files (*.stl)" from the "Save as type" drop down box.

I'm running into another problem now: I need help consolidating all of the parts in to one document (to submit to shapeways).
EDIT:
I've found out how to use assemblies now but I still have a problem: whenever I try to upload it to Shapeways, it just says to wait and then says it can't display the webpage.

Are you logged into Shapeways? Is your model less than 64MB and 1 million polygons?

Check, check and check. What else could be wrong?
