Douglas Hofstadter has two chapters in one of his books on the original Rubik's cube and on twisty puzzles more generally. He discusses various sticker mods that would emphasize, say, the corners, or the edges, instead of the faces. One such sticker mod, pretty generally known, is the 4-color Ruben King cube. One night I had the idea of ordering sheets of Ruben King stickers (from Cubesmith) and then using the combination of whole pieces and triangular "half" pieces to create various designs. So that's what I did. The results are three sticker-schemes for the 3x3: the "Bear Claw" (4 color), "Tie Dye" (4 color), & "Neapolitan" (4 color). Rather than making the last two as two separate cubes, I combined them into one cube, so it's an 8-color cube, with three sides "Tie Dye" and three sides "Neapolitan." The video in the link shows both cubes. I just thought people might dig the idea and end up developing their own schemes. With the basic Ruben King stickers, there are lots and lots of possibilities.
