Anti-virus firm ESET has discovered a trojan that sends AutoCAD technical drawings to an email address in China. So far the AutoCAD spyware appears to have been quite successful: the security researchers' analysis of the email accounts used by the malware determined that tens of thousands of drawings had been acquired. Its likely that the trojan is being used for industrial espionage.

Full Story

That's pretty scary, considering this could actually be a viable way certain Chinese manufacturers are getting their hands on stolen puzzle designs... :oops:

I knew it would be wise to do engineering work on an (old) computer that has no internet connection.... ;-)

- Splinter

PS The company stealing my designs will probably get broke by lack of success.....

My passwords are in my password file in the 'images' file located in the 'my documents' on the desktop. They'll never manage to find that !

If these guys put in even a fraction of the effort and creativity into designing new products of their own as they do into hacking/stealing/copying other people's designs, we wouldn't stand a chance to compete with them! :lol:

But many designers working in SolidWorks ...

Solidworks -> save as 'dxf'
AutoCad: open 'dxf' and save as AutoCad file

(or use IGES format or STP)

:-)

! Keep those designs coming, we're wanting to have mass produced !

:lol:

Wow, so I guess they could be using other techniques besides malware distribution to steal designs (but then again your password could have been acquired through malware on your machine... :roll: )

Well Windows 8 is "new and different" and that doesn't make it better :P

It looks new, but it still uses a great many features that other OSes have had for years. Except Metro. Thats theirs!

And we know just what a winner it's been on the phone! :lol:
