Hello all of you twisty puzzle people! I was playing around on solidworks today, and just could not get how to create a custom mechanism. I know that there have been several other solidworks topics already, but none of them seem to address how to design mechanisms or create higher order puzzles. Also, how do you know when and where you'll need screws or springs? I know that they're essential to all twisty puzzles, but I'm just really knew to designing puzzles on the computer.

I was thinking more along the lines of adding layers to the puzzle.
