The 2x2x4 has a neat shape-changing property but a rather annoying deficiency - the ends can only be rotated in very few positions, hence their mobility doesn't matter much for normal scrambling.

Here's an idea - build a 2x2x2, then add the 2x2x4-style extra pieces not just to two sides but to four sides. The result would be like a 4x4x2 with the corners cut off. It changes shape like the 2x2x4, but there's usually a face which can be rotated, instead of only rarely.

Hmm

The ends are just like the 2x2x2 corners, with all there possibliities , I consider this not a few position.

I assume you that you refer to a few postiotiins if the shape is 2x2x4. And you have solved one end.

Your idea is not new and is part of US patent 4,593,907

This patent also decribe "our" 2x2x4 extension, most of the 2x2x2 extension are described in this patent!
