How do I choose four colors for a puzzle?
This may sound like a silly question, but it is something that has bothered me for a while.
Up until now I have chosen Green, Blue, White and Red.
I miss the Yellow. But what to get rid of then? Green is pretty but blue is more classic.
But now I am switching over to White, Yellow, Red and Blue.
Why? Because I like how nice Yellow, White and Red looks together ...

Am I being weird here?

Then comes positioning.

If we have White on right and Yellow on left, would Blue go on top or does Red fit better there?
Maybe is blue too dark to choose for any of those positions..
....
Green might look better with the yellow... Maybe a Turquise instead.

Did anyone notice I missed orange so far?

I've found that red, orange, green, and blue tend to go nicely together. Those are the colors commonly used on the Ruben King cube and I think they look nice.

On a stranger note, I must say I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who gets picky over the color of stickers

As for positioning - since there's not any 'opposite sides' on many 4 sided puzzles, positioning is a much smaller matter for me when I'm stickering.

Yes you are. It's a known fact that the four standard colours for anything (not just puzzles) is red, yellow, green and blue. You will make my cry if you replace green with yellow and not white.

I'm really specific with all my colour schemes, and I've even be tempted to paint my Crazy Tetrahedron.

I prefer random colour schemes. When I get a puzzle to sticker myself i always pick random arrangements.

Still a great puzzle, the scheme doesn't really matter to me.

My 4 colors that I'd love to see on a Pyraminx or a 4 sided puzzle is red, orange, purple and blue.

Yea I don't know of a standard 4 color scheme. I always try to stick to a standard color scheme and I'm pretty picky about it to.

I have a hard time with eight-sided puzzles.

I had a really hard time with the Dayan Gem II and III because there aren't enough sticker colors provided to use one color for each side. I had to use duplicates which on the Gem II introduces an additional parity that it wouldn't have otherwise.

I thought introducing pink opposite grey was standard for 8 sided cubes (or green, white, blue, grey / orange purple red yellow: warm & cool opposite)?

On My Gem II I did this on the 8 sided `triangular` faces, while I used the standard 6 colour pattern for the square faces. I needed to mirror the pattern that I use on 8 sided puzzles to match the Red-White-Blue orientation of the standard cube though. I don't see the parity it creates though, because no 2 pieces are stickered the same?

But I'm not at all fussy about color combinations .

But yeah, as long as the colors are easily discernable from each other I don't much think twice about positioning them. I solve the regular 3x3 in a Modified Roux style where only the Red and Orange sides need to be in the right place, so I'm not one to talk too much

I don't really understand these types of questions. You simply choose the colours you like and prefer.

Unfortunately sometimes the colors you 'like' are not the colors you are used to seeing and it is more difficult to solve it. Your flourescent color scheme is probably the most appealing color scheme in the TwistyPuzzles world, but the oranges and yellows are a bit tricky to discern when solving. When it comes to stickering custom-made puzzles I love using different colors but I am a speedcuber so it's either the 'BOY' scheme or it's hard for me to solve. You have to decide whether aesthetics or difficulty is more important when creating a puzzle. 'Course, if a puzzle is already super hard, why bother asking this question?
