hello to all,
today I started to cut these puzzles, all 3 are Hexagonal dipyramids
in this post i will show all steps, with photos and some videos i
I hope you enjoy and that help those who want to start building puzzles;

Best regards
Rafael

Photos (from last to first)
1- cutting design;
2- puzzle cut;
3- in this step i improved the shape of a puzzle using an automatic sander, first with 180 grit, and after a 800 to make the surfaces smooth and therefore very suitable for bonding with cyanoacrylate (Super attack); the next step is disassembly, cleaning, gluing the parts that were removed during the cutting / polishing of puzzles;
4- Pieces of the puzzle must be rounded at the edges;
5- body complete;
6- washing & gluing parts that were removed during the cutting / polishing of 4x4x4 Crazy
7- coating 4x4x4 Crazy
8- cleaning & polishing surfaces; (this work is proving to be much longer than I thought) :(
9- body complete;
10- cutting stickers;
11-repairing some imperfections (small pieces have been lost during the work);
12-leveling and polishing the curves internal parts (no aid of a table top one hand hangs the piece, the other works because the curved surfaces make it almost impossible to place the piece);
13- the shape of the core "doesn't permit" to work easily, so, I had to create a small support for sandpaper, to eliminate the inequalities between the joints of plastic and do all the polishing process of the core;
14- attempted \ proof glazing, I'm thinking of creating a puzzle with satin plastic body without stickers;
15- puzzle pieces without radius, Unlike other puzzle must be done all by hand without the aid of sticks you see in the video;
16- body complete;
17- cutting stickers.

Videos
1- showing cutting design, fixing puzzle parts; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aadU5zkalXc
2- creating guidelines, I use to cut the puzzle without mistakes; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MrO0ZzbSPw
3- cutting the puzzle, (this video is bad, it shows mostly cutting my fingers, bad shot); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FVtNOz_2b4
3a - showing the hand cut; (the screws you see are just an oversight); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNC8SxHQmYQ
4- in this video I show the beginning of improving form, before going "down" I create a perfectly regular basis, after puzzle was sanded down and finely polished (photo 4); http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E1DxMLePKUA
5- cleaning glue residues created by fixing of puzzle, necessary to make the single cut, bonding of the first coating
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4G_c0_oiB1c;
6- removal of surplus, the cutter blade must be parallel to the surface of the puzzle piece, refinement of the surface (P800 grain), bonding of the opposite coating http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mIw9Ple1bc;
7- as the point 6 blade MUST be parallel... improvement of internal edges make them perfectly flat without abrading the inner surface of the pieces
(water and P800) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lMmoqlJMaCE;
8-cleaning and polishing pieces (water, grain P400/800/1200) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bBxaLdQGZMM;
9- creation of the chamfer, rounding and smoothing of the corners, rubbing two pieces of sandpaper 1200 grit between them we get a very thin grit, polishing and rounding chamfer+all piece surfaces (when the water drips from the surface quickly the part is ready), deep cleansing with water and a toothbrush http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8JCLWpclsPs;
10- Body complete http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8a629Vx19k8;

If you want a perfect puzzle without using shortcuts such as: fill it with Milliput without coating and polish it using paint this is the right way,
at 'the beginning I created puzzles in such a way, of course the time of creation are distinctly different, with the method reported above (+ some little additions) I arrived also to work more than 100 hours on a single puzzle.

Best regards to all
Rafael

At least the HD Axis is deleted from my list:
http://twistypuzzles.com/cgi-bin/puzzle.cgi?pkey=1953

But do not worry. Good ideas are worth to be remade.

Hello, RFLo9Puzzles.
Could you told me about a plastic sheet that you use for your cube?
What is it called?
And its thickness.

Thanks and apologize for my disturb.
And many thanks for all these useful VDO.

Yes,:) I like a lot do HDs, I don't know, it as a duty for me, when I see a puzzle think alwais: this puzzle must become a hd someone has to do;
although I find it more satisfying to create a Fisher bump a 3x3 Tetrakis or a morning star minx,
in short there is a different story because, first one "sits" on a white sheet and then out of nowhere an idea there's emotion;

Hello, i buy this Black or White polystyrene 1mm thick from here:

http://www.stationroadbaseboards.co.uk/cart_plastic.htm

explanation for the videos is to wait a moment I have to finish the damn hd...

someone with a good heart that gives me a plotter? :)

Best regards both
Rafael

I don't remember, it was over 15 years ago. Basically it was very thin polystyrene, so perhaps similar to what you are using.

There are identical pieces. I just liked the way it looked in black. I've made a 6 color version also.

Rafael - Very nice job with these puzzles! They look great!

Hello all, put one thing straight, I will write in large letters so that everyone should read:

I DO NOT HAVE INVENTED THE HEXIS (AXIS HD) THE FIRST PERSON WHO HAS APPLIED TO THE AXIS A HD SHAPE WAS MR. DAVID CALZONE
HE MADE IT A LOT OF TIMES WITH DIFFERENT FEATURES.

I'm not angry I'm just pointing out :| .

Thanks to all, and many thanks to mr. Calzone is very important for me to get your opinion.

Best regards
Rafael
