This thread is a concept that I had, and wanted to share with the forum, not a something i am working on currently.

When I saw Tony Fishers giant 2x2 here a while back I wondered if one could make a bigger or more stable one. I think you could if you took a yj crazy foot cube and then bandaged and extended it. I'm not going to do this any time soon but if you want to try it (and maybe even best Tony Fisher ) then I recommend trying it. I want to see if it works.

Erm, why go through the trouble of bandaging and heavily modifying a 3x3 when you can simply extend a 2x2 with plastic sheeting? Much, much easier process. Unless there's some sort of constraint I'm just not seeing, I think you could make a 2x2 with this method as giant as you wanted.

Well the reason being is that the crazy foot is a bigger puzzle and provide more stability than a smaller 2x2 or 4x4

In that case, bandage a 4x4 instead. They aren't AS big as a Crazy Foot Cube, but they also require almost no modding, just some supergluing.

.. well yes but the modification wouldn't be that complex and the goal of this is not to make the puzzle build faster, but to make a better resulting puzzle

I think that a 3x3 is generally much more stable than a 4x4. I like where you're going with this. I hope someone makes it!

The main problem is that the puzzle will become very unstable and fragile (high turning forces) if it is made bigger without increasing the size of the mechanism. A long stick is much easier to break then a short stick of the same thickness. Ideally you need to increase the size of the mechanism in proportion to the puzzle, just as you need to increase the thickness of a stick as you make it longer. And just to clarify, I'm talking about proportionality of *all linear dimensions*, not surfaces or volume.

Having made all of my giant 3x3x3s from 9x9x9cm Jumbo Rubik's Cubes I seriously considered doing the same for my 2x2x2. I don't think there would be much difference apart from extra hassle.
If you want to beat my puzzle simply do it my way but add a cm or so.

For the sake of stability, I'd go with the crazy foot cube. A normal 2x2 would work but, personally, I'd be bothered by the thought of it all being held together by such a small inner 3x3.

Or build a larger 3x3x3 base. D: Maybe I'll do that.

I'll need a bunch of plastic sheet and more time then I have, but the measurements and angles are easy at least. LOL.

I guess it would be easier than i thought... it'd just take time (like anything). Maybe make the biggest 3x3 with proportional mechanism?
