I started a new concept to build the Magic Tetrahedron (Halpern-Meier Pyramid), I finished the first phase of the "build" design phase so the concept works. The improment is in stability, using black milliput and using plastic from other puzzles (yes I am lazy, but it is also cheap!) see

Magic Tetrahedron

I might build more than one! This depends if someone makes me an offer. But you should be able to build your own for $35 if I finish the build instructions.

Ton,

How does the Pyrix puzzle differ from a meffert pyraminx?
Can you use either puzzle?

Where can you get a pyrix puzzle?

Pyrix puzzles used to come up on eBay with some frequency. Usually they were generically called "pyramid" or some similar keyword although I haven't seen one in a while.

Duh on my part. The Pyrix isn't a twisty puzzle, it's an assembly puzzle consisting of a bunch of connected pieces that you assemble into a tetrahedron shape.

I used a pyrix because this was cheaper (always a good reason) and it has some nice sharp edges.

You also good use a black pyraminx edge pieces for the Magic Threahedron egdes , in this case you would need two black pyraminx puzzles. You also could use the tips.

or you can use a Pyramorphix instead, in this case you need 4 keychains in total

The pyrix puzzle is a take-a-part puzzle, each piece is connected with a string. So it is not a twisty puzzle the appear a lot on ebay

Hehe. Darren, look again. Ton's saying that for $35 in parts you can build your own Halpern Meier. He'd be pretty nutty to sell an H-P tetrahedron for just $35.

And yes, I'm still making the Franken Tower. Email me for more info.

Done!

I will update the building pages in the weekend, I changed the proces a bit

It took me 40 hours to build, including packing and solution sheet. I made a small error in the planning, the stickers took me almost 4 hours, I had planned 1 hour. I wanted the stickers to be perfect.

If I was Santa the price would be $35, I sold this one for 150 Euro , I made this one as a special request for the first official Dutch speedcuber (Dutch champion in 1981) Actual he promoted on the theory behind the Magic Tetrahedron but he did not know that the puzzle existed!

So I builded one for him as for a special price

Looks very clean, Ton. Alignment is always difficult and this one is very good in that respect. You need to speed things up a little bit if you plan on selling them. :)

The puzzle looks a lot better with your tetrahedron tips than with my idea. But I think my idea is still a little easier and faster to do.

I think the second time I can build it in 30 hours, my method is first think of the concept that might work, build and refine the process. So I had to redo some pieces also in the 40 hours is also design a packing and a solution method.

When you mailed me the feedback on the tips, I used your basic idea in a different way, I used some plastis to made the front of the tip.

Thanks again fro your idea, I always appriciate sugestions, feedback or improvement or alernative sugestion

As you might know the Magic Tetrahedron was independently invented by two puzzle inventors, Benjamin R Halpern and Kersten Meier. (The Magic Tetrahedron is also know as the Halpern-Meier Pyramid)

Actually this is not true!

I builded the puzzle for Marko van Eekelen he and a study friend Bernard van Houtum made a scription in 1981, it has a build design and solution from before sep 1981. As will receive a copy of this.

So there where four independently invented the puzzle!
