hey started cubing two years ago and started modding two months ago... my first mod was a hexagonal dipyramid and it kinda failed... i made a second one and this one is better, it has even cuts and even sides. so, im looking for an easy cube mod that i cud try. i'll consider any suggestion as long as i dont have to buy a cube thats over $50. also i have some questions. how do you "polish" pieces? do you just use really fine grain sand paper? and also, how do you dye plastic a different color? thanks to anyone that responds. :D

This question comes up a lot
Simple and fun mods include:
Half-Truncated Cube
Fused Cube
Siamese Cube
Octagon Barrel
Cubeoctahedron

About the sanding question, to make faces smooth, sand them with finer and finer grits, followed by a rubbing down with paper, this usually makes the faces exceptionally smooth, although there is a more complicated wet sanding process I'm not familiar with

Welcome to the forum and good luck

Welcome to the forum! It's good to hear that you made a second attempt, and succeeded. Now that you have done a truncation mod (meaning you cut parts off the cube), how about trying an extension mod (attach parts to a cube). Perhaps make an axis cube? Or do some sort of Skewb mod?

Good luck! I'm sure we'd all like to see some pictures of the Hexagonal Dipyramids you made (both, so we can see the improvement).

I started by making Dino Cubes out of rainbow cubes (Four months ago). EASY MOD! Hard to mess up completely. I then went to bandaged 3x3x3's and skewb mods from Tony's collection like the mental block and my current projects, the skewb stick and the container.
