I recently formed rough a Dodecagonal Prism & a rough Star Prism out of three Square-1s.
Ton Dennenbroek suggested using a small soldering iron to join and/or cut the middle sections. However, can a Dremel tool work a little better?

As I recently finished making these myself, let me tell you what I found. A dremel type tool works well for sanding and shaping. The soldering iron works well for bonding the newly formed pieces back on to the center piece.

As Jerry alreadly stated, the soldering iron is only used to fill small caps in a very cheap and nice way, actually I use it to fill very large holes, but thats me I want to make thinks as cheap as posible. Please use a saw or a dremel grind tool to cut or sand down pieces.
You can also use Black milliput to fill the caps.
