Did Anthony Greenhill invent this puzzle or has it been around for some time?

This looks great! I must add this on my puzzle building list.

Thanks for sharing the building info!

Sweet work. I think I might do one eventually too. Heck someone make me one and we'll trade.

Very nice! What I really like about your puzzle is the way you deviated from the perfect octahedron structure. Yours is a little flatter, and it reminds me more of a cut diamond.

Anthony's Version

I asked Anthony about that very question last month. He created his in 1997. He feels it is likely that others independantly came up with the same idea, although he has yet to hear about one that was built earlier than his.

No, I didn't invent it.
Although when I made mine way back in April/May 1997 I had not heard of or seen one before, it was just a natural progression from other 3x3x3 transformations I had made.
After recently looking through some back issues of CFF - there is actually a drawing of one in CFF 25 (Silver Edition) Part 2 Curious Cubism which appeared in December 1990. I didn't receive a copy of this until late 1997 as a back issue after joining the Dutch Cube Club at the beginning of 1997.

By the way, Bruno, can I link this page under the articles section?
