I saw a pic of the pyracube and I am still stumped at how it moves. Was it here someone said it was made from a pyraminx? Does anyone know if that is the real mechanism?

Yes, the mechanism is based on the 4 armed spider of the Skewb or Pyraminx. Unfortunately the puzzle is not being produced because apparently when you mix it in certain ways some pieces tend to fall out.

If you are talking about the "Pyracue" at the 3D Puzzle Reconstruction Studio, I'm sure it is a Skewb modification. Their website shows some of their materials and techniques. http://puzzle3d.hp.infoseek.co.jp/

On the other hand, if you are talking about the "Pyraskewb", these are easily built by hybridizing a Skewb and a Skewb Diamond from Meffert's (http://mefferts.com/) if you can get them with stickers.
