I just saw this on the front page and was going to write a message of my own, but anyway... Very nice Wayne. Im excited about this one! Im sure Mefferts or one of the other companies will snap this one up. Id really like it to be mefferts, as i think they are the best! Well done, and good luck with the making of the puzzle!!

Looks really good!
Does Blender allow you to "twist" the puzzle so you can check that parts don't collide?
I think if you sent Meffert a working prototype he would have to take it on! Imagine that, a Meffert quality 6x6x6. A real must have. Lets face it, with free postage who wouldn't pay $40 - $50 for a production one.
Good luck Wayne.

You and me both! I can't WAIT to get my hands on one of these! Are you going to be selling these, Wayne? I don't think I have enough in my whole collection to cover a trade. L8r.

Forget $50! I'd EASILY pay $100 for a production one! L8r.

Wayne
The 6x6x6 (and 4x4x4) are very interesting. But have you actually built a custom 2x2x2 kernel of the kind illustrated, to check that it works? A while back someone on this forum expressed doubts about the clips holding the the thing together: I think they were worried that they would move and stop the puzzle from turning. (I had the same doubts, which for a long time distracted me from the very nice and original ideas behind your 4x4x4 design.)
Of course, you could use any other 2x2x2 mechanism as the basis ... I'm just interested to know whether the novel 2x2x2 design has been made to work in practice.

I guess that three of the curved clips could be fixed permanently in place on one of the 2x2x2 cubies. The rest could be free. When a given face was being turned, four cubies would slide around on the circular track provided by 4 clips. The clips are prevented from getting stuck partway between the cubies by the fact that one of the clips forming the circle is glued to a cubie.
The tolerances would be pretty fine, but is that basically what you had in mind?

I think anyone would pay a bomb. I was just fantasising about get a really good production model for a reasonable price!
It would be excellent, I love the way Meffert builds puzzles, really high quality.
I will say it again.
COME ON UWE!

Mike and I were discussing this earlier...
" It is based my original idea that has flaws. After a few turns there are clashes. The same principal will be applied as before, but only the main cubie will have all three guides fused. The rest will be floating, with small divider floaters in the gaps. From what I can see so far, this should get around the problem, and will require a small tiny pieces, not totalling 10 different pieces needed."
Basically, There are some alterations but the pictures on the site don't show to new inner mech. I'm still modelling the last piece which is a simple square plug.
