I'm working on the Mental Block. So far so good. My Mental Block is based on the mini-skewb and uses part of that puzzle as the basis. The scaling compared to other puzzles is much better this way than using a full sized Skewb for the build-up. While I couldn't claim that my version of the Mental Block is comparable to the $220 Japanese custom import, I will say it will be considerably less expensive and it will be well made although probably not quite achieving that one's level of craftsmanship. I'm looking forward to making one just so I can have my own Mental Block but there's no reason why I can't make extra pieces.

I'm currently working on a slim tower using the method descibed on this site. It is a surprisingly rough going though. I've actually taken a break from it for a bit, but will finish eventually. I'll will be making molds for it once it's done because the whole glue thing ain't working, and not to metion I hate stuff that is glued.
Try cubeman1 on ebay, he sold one a few months back.

I can make a Slim Tower (material cost is $25)

Your Halpern Pyramid is a beauty, but even looking at your photos I could not figure out how you built it. Which mechanism did you use and where did you get parts for it (Icould see you fused some edges with milliput).
Unless it's all a secret, could you expand on it?

I used a keychain skewb and 3x Pyramorphix keychains for the tips, some milliput and some flat plastic.

I used the keychain skewb, and the middles are the fixed parts axles of a skewb, other builders use the corners as the fixed axle.

I justed some spare plastic and milliput and the tips of a Pyramorphix to get the correct shape of the middle pieces and corners.

If I would rebuild it, I would use only the milliput to fill and cover it with some flat plastic. You may use black telephone cards, or do what I did I used the plastic of a Giant 3x3x3 (cost $2.25).

I used:

1x keychain Skewb $ 4
3x keychain Pyramorphix keychain $12
1x Milliput bar $10
flat plastic $ 2.25
Sand paper $ 1

Total $30

I used a keychain skewb, because with a normal skewb the Halpern Pyramid would be 15 cm high.
