All the needed parts. You can see the 2x2x2 with it's edges shaved a little. Also there is the original triangular pyramid piece made from pieces of phonecard, and smoothed joins with milliput. The others are casts.

Well, this puzzle may look reasonably ok except that the gaps are too far apart and the pieces are never perfectly aligned. This is because an oddzon 2x2x2 does not have perfectly cubic cubies. It's been a real problem and I can't do anything to correct it unfortunately. But it is functional and doesn't look too bad.

I was going to make a master piece as a plug on for a standard 2x2x2 but it isn't practical with the imperfect core.

It isn't a patch on Carter's version which started as blobs of milliput on the outside and was sanded back. I guess it's not as heavy though (have I got that right, Carter).

Next stop... 2x2x4 to finish...

The 2x2x2 rhomdo is my favorite puzzle shape. Nice job! You are correct, the solid Milliput (or Magic Sculp) puzzles are kind of heavy, although you can get the geometry pretty precise.

Wayne, if you mold some internals for the large 2x2x2 (like the Harry Potter cube), could I talk you into molding a few extras for me? I hate spending $16 for a puzzle when I only need one little piece that nobody will see.

I haven't given up on puzzle prototyping myself but I admit it's on a serious backburner at the moment. It is tough finding the Time to do all of what you've done.

Thanks, Jin. Yeah all the cast pieces I make are dyed black, not coloured later.

How did you determine how much black pigment should go into the mixture? Did you just stir it in until it looked "about right?" Was simple gentle stirring enough to mix the stuff without trapping air bubbles?

I use the liquid dye, and I have a very accurate and scientific method of measuring it, thus:

1 - one thousand
2 - one thousand
3

.. and stop.

I'm being silly, but that is what I do. I basically counted the first time to 1 and a half seconds of squeezing the bottle and found the piece went purple. So I increased it a couple of times to 2 and a bit seconds and the pieces came out a good black.

It's just a couple of trial and errors.
