I have recently got a new pyraminx for Christmas, but it was the wrong kind. So, I want to do some kind of mod to it. I would like to make a tetraminx, but on the QJ pyraminx's, the screws stick out a ways after you remove the tips. I was going to try and follow Tony Fisher's gear tetraminx mod, but the screws on that puzzle do not stick out above the plastic. Any ideas on how to make a tetraminx with a QJ pyraminx?

question: if I use a different screw, would it have to be the same length and diameter? I think I could probably find a screw the same size with a smaller cap.

Alright, I found a way to put caps on the puzzle to make it a tetraminx, but in the meanwhile does anyone know of other mods for a pyraminx?

*sigh*....................... It didn't work.. When I shaved down the caps, the screws were above the plastic, so I had to drill a 1mm hole to insert the screw below the plastic in order for a cap to go on. But, the one millimeter that I drilled was one too many. The core of the pyraminx has a certain limit on how far the screw can go, and apparently it couldn't handle 1 more millimeter. So now I have a bunch of spare pyraminx parts Any idea on what to do with spare pyraminx parts?

Wouldn't it have been easier to replace the long screws with shorter ones, or just cut the screws down if they had enough thread? Now you could always just get another Pyraminx and glue the extra pieces to the outside to make a Stellated Pyraminx.

It's a rough world out there with mechanism constraints and what have you.. I don't even want to post my first attempt at a mod. Sometimes I ask myself what I was thinking haha. I've came a long way! And you will too if you don't let this become a total loss! Good luck! -HP

Thanks for the encouraging words! I'll just put the past behind me and use the mistakes as learning experiences. by the way, does anyone know of a tutorial on the mastermorphix? I've got all the materials and just need a tutorial.

Make a junior pyraminx out of the spare parts. It's really easy and very cute!
