ok, so I got my shipment from Cubefans on ebay yesterday. A little box, a little dent, pull out two bubble wrapped items.
A DIY (I'll talk about that later somewhere)
And a $3 Knockoff Asian Anime Cartoon Stickered Cheap Stiff Crappy Square-1.
And some stickers and tiles and a plastic Razor thing from cubesmith.
Part 1. Dissasembly
So one of the panels on the Square-1 is like, well there is a gap between it and where it connects, like it had been somewhat pried off already...OK, So I pry it off, break one of the internal pegs in the process. There is a lone screw inside, well, normal right? Ya, of course. So I try to unscrew, um...ok, try harder...OK, maybe if I put the puzzle here, stand up, screw driver, torque, power, pain, sweat, panting. GUH, Finally get it off, a BEOTCH. Puzzle falls apart. Some like nasty dust residue on the inside, like the puzzle has been played with before, impossible, I just opened it out of the little wrapper....hmm...
Part 2. Get the Stickers off!
OK, I used Goo-Gone, the plastic razor, and a lot of time. I soaked a paper towel in goo-gone, wiped the Razor down (:/ it helped) AND Directly onto the stickers, the edges of the stickers got all discolored...yes...good...well with a lot frustration, work, time, goo-gone, and patience, all the stickers are off...wow that sucked.
Part 3. Lube and put it back together!
OK, Silicone lube...um...before lubing, I washed it in my sink to get any and all crap off of it...pretty normal...time to put it back together, carrying it downstairs, crash, half of the puzzle falls off of the board i am carrying it down on, onto my stairwell...so what? I have 3 cats, cat hair+sticky lube...
OK, time to put the screw back in...ok it won't go in...ok push harder...won't go in...ok put all of my weight on it...nada. Pull it out, look at the spring, SQUISHED, eh...well...this won't do me any good, so I put just the screw in, works perfectly...hmm....I put the panel back on test out the puzzle...
the smoothest lightest smoothest loosest smoothest greatest smoothest puzzle I have used ever.
Put the stickers on...this thing is PIMP! I will post a vid of the looseness later...
Anyone else got a Square-1 this loose?

Yes it may be loose...but how's the tension. With no spring, doesn't have a lot of difficulty cutting corners. It must lock up a bundle. Or not?

I have probably the nicest square one ever, and it still cant cut corners. The problem with it is that the slider has no room to give. So if you try doing a (0,0) / (3,0), you'll get a pop. So when spinning, (this takes some getting used to...) move the puzzle's vertical turns in the opposite direction then you would for a 3x3 finger trick. It'll dramatically cut down on pops, it not completely end popping.
I have these puzzles somewhere in the mail for me

well no, it doesn't cut corners much at all, but I didn't know that the build of the Square-1 would allow it if you had a spring or not.

I was planning on buying those 2 knockoffs on ebay as well.
I also have a square-1 that is amazing. It's not as good anymore, seeing as the plastic piece that holds the screw is kinda getting stripped, but I never have pops and I can get under a minute with a parity on it. Very nice. (Note: this is not the knockoffs, this is the real kind)

The when I first put lube on my sq-1, I can do 2 full turns (720 degrees) with just one push.

Unfortunatly a few thousand solves have reduced that for me. Like I said, I've basically striped the plastic where the screw goes in, so it just falls appart sometimes.

I had the same problem with the screw stripping the plastic on my square-1. I fixed that by coating the inside of the hole where the screw should go in with superglue. I then let it dry and then I reinserted the screw. I have not had any problems since.

Do any of you know why the stickers are really hard to remove? I would
think it would be easy to remove the stickers because the cube is cheap.

I'm planning on buying those from cubefans, hopefully they will work out O.K. I cant seem to find any other Square-1s anywhere, at least for prices I want to pay at the moment.

Cubesmith has replacement stickers for the square-1 but he doesn't have
tiles for the square-1. There are 2 anoying things about it: one the stickes
are really hard to remove, and two the screw may strip the plastic where the
screw should go. You can fix the striped plastic here.

hi,
I got my square-1s from cubefans today, and scrambled one which I decided to disassemble, I removed the cap, and there is no screw, only a little black plastic sticking out, I believe there is a screw under the other cap, but I am not sure, does anyone know?
Thanks

little black plastic thing? sounds like the rivet on my 3x3.... if thats the case, you'd be better off getting a new cube with a screw in it...

i fixed the problem, somewhat. I pulled off the wrong center cap, and when i took off the other one, I found the screw and it disassembled easier, I enjoy this puzzle

I have just ordered four of these off of ebay, and i was wondering when they will arrive. I used the standard shipping, which he suggested was 25-50 days, which i find a little rediculous. I hope this isn't actually the shipping time. What was everyone else's?

I have ordered from him before, and it seems every subsequent order adds shipping time, hah.
First order: 12 days shipping
Second order: 16 days shipping
Third order: It was shipped January 20th and it still hasnt arrived, so 22 days and running.
I have given up on expecting it within this week, I'm going to assume by the end of the month I will have it.

Yeah, if up you order ground shipping, it might take a while... I got airmail with my DIY to aviod that waiting time, 2 weeks is hard enough to wait for me! but 11 dollars was worth it
