Alright, so my speedcube is now way too loose (to the point of pops being more frequent). I have a new one (not the anniversary kind..I was lucky) and it still needs a lot of work.

The problem is, the cube I have now, although I could get it working fast, it has a HUGE problem with jamming up on me. What can I do to keep that from happening in the future?

Aside from that, should I get a DIY cube? What are so great about them? Would that problem just *go away* if I had one? Would there be less work as far as preparing it? Also, does it have screws? (I'm not a huge fan of screws...I have a studio somewhere and I could never get it to work right.)

The DIY Kit has screws, and that's what so many people like about them.
Although they have arched centers, instead of the flat ones a studio cubes has.

Hmm, maybe I should figure out how to use cubes with screw properly...I don't know.

I was satisfied with my anniversary cube, and I'm even more satisfied with my new cube.
When I use screws I tend to make it to loose.
I'm fine with rivets.

My retarded cube jams all the time dude... I'll be going really fast, then it just stops and it takes me liike 2 seconds to getit spinning again... it is so retarded... lol and it seems to happen every time I time myself...

clayne, just get a bit of sand paper (or a old school nail file) and sand down the corners of each internal piece that you think is jamming:) it is legal in competition too.

DIY cubes are definitely the way to go. And it isn't that hard, just pop the center caps off and tighten/loosen accordingly.

I was unsure about them before I got mine. they are amazing and easyer to work on than you think.

I wouldn't think, does your Studio have arched centers? If so, it is probably the best cube you can get, arguably of course, throw some lube on there, get the tightness really nice, and that is a niiiiiiiiiiice speedcube.

Studio cubes have flat centers. At least mine do.

I am not sure if it is just me, but I have several cubes sitting on my desk right now. Studio Cube, store-bought (Ideal) cube, DIY (from rubiks.com), and a 25-th Anniversary cube. I have lubed up all of these cubes, and I have found that the DIY and 25-th Anniversary are equally good, and the store-bought cube from Ideal is also very good. However, what surprised me the most was that the Studio Cube was by far the worst. It was very difficult to turn and jammed very frequently. Hardly speedcubing material! So it got me thinking, are all Studio Cubes like this, or did I just get a bad one?

I think they are all like that. They have fully threaded cubes=spring snagging. And flat centers=popping. But I hear the plastic on them is really like "squishy" or something and this is supposed to be a good thing.

Presonally I like rivits because they don't losten themselves after playing
with it for a while but screws are good like everybody said you can tighten them and losten them.

The ones made a few years ago were better. They popped a lot but the plastic was better.
Then they made them in Russia and those ones really sucked; then the Chinese versions were better, but not by much.

I bought a speedcube made from the best Studio cube by someone who is good at it. I had complained to him that it wouldn't hold together. I'm not sure he believed me, but while he watched, at the 2004 US Tourney, Macky tried it and it exploded with pieces flying everywhere.

Pretty funny.

I bought one at the 2004 Caltech spring U.S. Tournament (I think). I was never too impressed. I've never used it for speedcubing.

I have a studio cube and it is harder to turn than a rubik's cube from
rubik's (at the exploritorium) also the studio cube pops while the one from
rubik's has never popped and also mine has flat centers too.
