Hi, I start with a green cross, and then I orient and permuate blue. That is how the little instruction booklet told me to do it, so I have just done it like that since then.

It seems that every speed method starts on a white cross, and the LL is yellow.

Does it matter that I use my method? Should I change? Are there pros/cons to using the white cross?

Why is it white? Did someone just decide they would use white and then everyone copied?

When I read the first part of your post I thought you meant you used a method like this:

Step 1: D layer Cross
Step 2: LL
Step 3: D corners
Step 4: E edges

i always use white... its most obvious in a scrambled cube. and its easiest to start with. Its werid because if im teaching someone how to do a cube they do the obivious thing that somone that doesnt know how would do... pick the side with the most solved. anways somtimes lets say they pick green as the top. well then they want my help. and ill get like the red, green , and white corner, i automaticaly put the white on top. just becuase ive done to many cubes that way. and then the second layer. im done looking for white... so i keep disregarding it if i see. but if they used green as the top i need a white and red edge. and its even worse having to deal with yellow before im to the last layer. anyways white on top. its just easier to spot

I've always solved green out of habit, plus, the colors feel natural to me to solve like that.

I can pick out the second layer edges faster that way.

with petrus I either start with the blue, yellow and red corner or the green yellow and red corner.

I should be color neutral and start with any but I always mess up.

I dsilike solving white first, because it means I have to have yellow for LL, I'm not of fan of that yellow. I tend to solve green first, with a blue LL.

I use white cross, because its the most distinct color for me to start with.

I like yellow as the last layer color, because everytime I think of OLL patterns, i visualize yellow.

I go for white cross because they are easier to spot on a scrambled cube for me.
and then I do my LL on yeLLow....

To cuben00b, there is no right or wrong colour to start with, neither is there any pros and cons to which colour you use first.
My only advice is to try and use a colour you can spot best on a scrambled cube...

It was a joke if anyone got it. For the people that didn't get it, it meant exactly what Pembo said in that second part there.

I realised that, and that's why I posted my other reply.

cuben00b, just start with whatever you have learned. as a beginner i started with white because that was what the website i learned off of told me, similar to what the book told you. the best part about starting with a good color is that there are only pros- you are faster with it. the cons- i dunno, i guess your just not with the "in" crowd, lol.

I use yellow cross with white top layer.

I was taught that way, and I was told at the time to use yellow or white because they'd stick out more compared to the darker colors.

I think that white is the top because the logo was on the white side of the original cubes... and most of the current ones.

I use white for the things where recognition is hardest. In this case, it's the F2L corner-edge pairs (Fridrich system), so that's the main reason why I start with white.

Whatever color you use, though, try to work up to color neutrality (where you can start with any color). You'll need it for any system where you make blocks, so it can't hurt.
