 Post subject: speedsolving a 15 puzzle

is there a good method for this. the obvious one is to go row by row. by best time for this is 15 seconds but most of my times are inconsistant. does anyone know a metod for speed solving this puzzle? I've tried to do a 2x2 corner then put 2 pairs in to get the first 2 rows. but that took way too many moves.

I'm not sure why I never thought about this before now given how obvious it seems in hindsight, but instead of solving the WHOLE 15 puzzle row by row, only do that for the first 2 rows. Then fill in the 2x2 block on the left, then the final 3 pieces will be trivial. Give it a shot at let me know how it works. L8r.

Fake name, how old are you? You might have the wrong age. Notice the two fastest guys emphasize they're 14, so it must be real important.

Believe it or not, Stefan, yes. It was a technique that I developed way back when I was like 5, over 30 years ago... it never really occurred to me to try it any other way until now. L8r.

My method is

Place 1+2 one at a time, then 3+4 at the same time using only the right column.

Same for 2nd row.

Then get

1234
5678
10xxx
9xxx

Next

1234
5678
10x1514
9xx13

after you cycle 13,14,15 the 12 should be behind 15, then just finish with clockwise cycle the entire bottom 2 rows.

with 2 days practice i was at 12 seconds.It gets REALLY boring though, you'll see.

for the last 2 rows I match up 9 and 10 anywhere then get 11 and 12. but I don't actually put the 3rd row in place until I fix 13, 14 and 15.
