Basically, scrambling and solving (a 3x3x3) by twisting only the right and up layers, but using u and r instead of U and R. So, only the top two layers together and the right two layers together, without simple U or R
Most confusing is to try to classify it; it's a two-generator, but the two faces vary. The bottom left is bandaged, but not all free moves are allowed. It can also be considered as pulling a bandaged edge (of three pieces) around the cube, incidentally scrambling the other pieces.
For example, try a regular three-edge cycle "doubled" (it's easy to put in at http://thearufam.brinkster.net/cube/wrapplet.asp
Or a three-corner orienter:
(On a slightly different note, try a T [RUR'U'R'FR2U'R'U'RUR'F'] with (n-1)-outer-slices-together turns on an nxnxn [rur'u'r'fr2u'r'u'rur'f'(u)]; it becomes an interesting 3-cycle)
Solving the corners is relatively simple, though the centers are not necessarily automatically aligned.
And I've managed to solve some top layer edges, too, but I'm nowhere near a full solution. Too bad no serious cube-solving applet/program uses uses double-turns...
To my point: I have been searching for a while, but I haven't found anything about his sort of turning, so I'm posting here to ask if anybody has seen something like this before, or tried it, or even thought about it (or succeeded at it
). I know Stefan has [had?] a video of a two-layers R/r-and-U/u-only solve, but that's about all of which I know.
So, anyone got ideas?
